Orlando System: The First Ten Years

We can look forward to a lot of milestones in 2012. It will see the beginning of the 3D Saga releases and will bring a Star Wars Celebration home to Orlando again. Not least of these is the Tenth Anniversary of our own humble Orlando System. The club began as a FanForce on TheForce.net message boards. Posts there go back to the year 2000, but over the next year, many were calls for organization and complaints that nothing was happening.

Several members got together in December of 2001, and in January 2002, anticipating Celebration II and Episode II: Attack of the Clones, the group coalesced, and named itself THE ORLANDO SYSTEM. I've got some ideas of how to celebrate this decade of fandom and I hope to keep the celebration going all year long.

Hello fellow SWGFA friends. I got word that fellow SWGFA member and friend, Bret Calltharp is in a band called Seven Years Past. They will be playing at HRL (Hard Rock Live) at Universal City Walk. He just let me know that he can get tickets to the show. The show is Friday, August 12th. Starts around 7pm. Parking is only $3.00 after 6pm.

August 2 Tuesday Little Thing at My House

I have the rare opportunity to have a gathering at my house. It'll be a potluck to bring whatever you like. I can provide sodas & sweet tea and a desert. There is a large screened patio with ceiling fans and large fenced yard so even if you have a small portable grill (sorry don't have one). Kids are welcome. Animals are welcome but would probably have to stay outside due to the 3 protective cats inside. Since it's a rather unplanned thing it'll be movies, games and chatter. Please feel free to bring any games (mine are packed away) or anything to show off. Sorry what little "collection" I have is packed as well so nothing for me to show off really. Just a chance for us to get together and enjoy some group time. Anytime anyone would want to show up after 2pm is welcome.

Canoe Trip

While you can also expect an SWGFA Event in the near future, I want to start a dialogue and gauge interest in a Summer Canoe Trip. Who's interested? If we could put it together for a weekday it'd be much less crowded, but I'm realistic about the chances of this.

The place we've been before and I recommend for the future is Kings Landing.

Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Screenings

Orlando System Potluck, Sunday the 17th of April

The Orlando System is coming over to my place and you're invited. On Sunday April 17th, starting around 3 or 4pm and going till 10-ish pm, I'll be hosting a Potluck Trivial Pursuit Random Star Wars Fun Night near the Millenia Mall.

Kids are allowed as long as you wrangle them and protect the many, many random collectibles all over the place. Also, our dog, Artoo will be around but may be sequestered to the bedroom.

Good news that we've got some takers. I have a small hitch with the scheduling. There's no way that I can get off on the 10th. How about the 17th? Still a Sunday, still 3 or 4pm till whenever.

I most definitely can provide the napkins and cups and silverware and microwave and oven and fridge. I'll make some sort of food (I haven't decided what) as well, but anything else is welcome. Jawa Chill sounds intrigueing- does it happen to have meat? Meat is absolutely fine to bring and consume but I'm pesco-vegetarian so I'll have to...

What do you Central Floridians want to do for our next local meet-up? We're into the holiday season so not everyone will be able to make it, but is there a time or an activity that you are interested in hanging out with the gang?

In 5 short days we've got the anniversary of the Holiday Special, there's Clone Wars to catch up on, and we can always can have movie viewings.

I'd be interested in a small dog park gathering if anyone could join me. A canoe outing would also be something I'd jump at. Thoughts?

Hello there,

We're a family of huge Star Wars fans from Vienna, Austria and we ( DH, our two padawans and me) will be visiting Mickeyland from Nov 22nd to Dec 8th.

We have traveled to the US before and had the pleasure to meet Star Wars fans in some other states. It's always been a lot of fun and we would love to meet some of you for an afternoon/evening of geeking out. Perhaps there are even some SW sights that we don´t know of that you could introduce us to?

Orlando Collector Runs

An idea I was thinking about today is for some of us that are interested in collectibles to go out on a toy run together. A few of us have done this after meetings years ago, and some of us have met for the midnight toy releases, but we haven't done much of that lately.

Wouldn't it be fun some afternoon to get a car or two together and take a sort of "pub crawl" all over town to various comic and toy shops, maybe even antique shops and Goodwill, to hunt for random Star Wars stuff? Don't have money to buy anything right now? Who cares? It's still fun to look at this stuff together and we might learn about new places and about different collectibles from each other.

Also, if you didn't know about it, we have a place to suggest places that you find collectibles in the Orlando area in this thread as well as a Store Reports section in the...

Orlando Movie Viewing / 21 September 2010

Anyone want to plan a movie viewing here in Orlando in the next month or two? We're going to be having a meeting near Tampa in October (details to follow shortly). Every time we've tried this it's turned into a fun little party with not so much actual movie watching, but that's a great problem to have. Basically, coming down from Celebration I'm really anxious to sit down with friends and enjoy a Star Wars movie or maybe some Clone Wars episodes.

The more casual the better. Groups are great, but 3-4 people could be great for actually finishing a movie just as well. What are your thoughts?

I am planning on a Pizza and Movie party at my house Saturday June 26. My wife will be out of town, well out of country. She got invited to Morocco, Africa with her friend. Anyone up for a small meeting of the Orlando System some time in February? Where would you like to meet? Aaron mentioned the Mall at Millenia, which would be fine by me, but we're all open to different ideas. Weekends seem to be the best time for GFA meetings but ours may be small enough to accommodate the individuals that post interest here. It'd be nice to get your feedback on current events, the upcoming excitement of conventions and Celebration, and be among old friends and new.

Who's driving to Clermont from the Orlando area on Saturday? Who needs a ride? I know Sharon's got class so she'll be coming a little later.

I've spoken to Aaron and he and his wife, Cassy. He may be taking Ricky up there.

Russ, you mentioned that you'd like to drive to my house and if that's still the case I could drive us over. I'm holding another seat in my/our car for another friend that might be joining us so that means if one other person needs a ride you could meet us at my house. I'm hoping to get there before the meeting to check out Heroes Landing and meet Todd. I tend to get pulled all over the place at gatherings so I want some quieter time to explore before the meeting proper. I guess I'm thinking about leaving about 3pm-ish.
