2011 Star Wars Grand Florida Alliance Summer Social at Fantasy of Flight

SUMMER SOCIAL:

On Saturday, August 13th, the Star Wars Grand Florida Alliance will be spending the day at Fantasy of Flight, a huge airplane museum located just off I-4 in Polk City, FL. It's about half way between Tampa and Orlando. Now, why would a group of Star Wars fans want to go look at airplanes you ask? Well, it just so happens that some Star Wars fans are also Indiana Jones fans and this particular museum houses the actual Ford 5AT Trimotor airplane used in the beginning of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom! Sea Cruises, SWGFA style

I had mentioned before in the Autography section of the SWGFA boards that on this cruise i got a connection. Well, the cruise i took was Carnival. When you are on a ship for that long you end up making friends with people. Well one of the people happens to be one of the cruise entertainment staff. These are the people that do fun stuff on the ship like bingo or horse racing. I think that there is a staff of about 6 people. He told me that his wants to do planning for Carnival. That if I ever need anything planned to give him a shout. He gave me his email and befriended me on Facebook. Lets say you have about 500 (just a figure that i just through out there, it can be less) people that want to take a cruise, what he will do is plan the cruise, reserve a area for a private party on the ship, get the excursion of your choice. What started this was I told him that I am a Star Wars fan and I belong to a few fan clubs. One i mentioned was the R2 Builders. I asked him if I could bring a RC...

Tampa Meet Up - 03/14/11

Bob, who is one of our members in the Tampa Bay area (specifically Land 'O Lakes), is graciously opening up his home for an evening of Star Wars fun on Monday, March 14th from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Bring some food to share, bring yourself to make some new friends and come hang out for a few hours. Space and parking is limited, so please RSVP by Friday, March 11th so we can plan accordingly. If you are interested, please respond to this post and we will answer any questions you may have as well as transfer the coordinates into the navicomputer so you can find your way!

Star Wars At The Beach

Greetings, Alliance members.

This thread is to gauge interest in a meeting for SWGFA members and all SW groups to meet for a spring thing at the beach on the right coast. This location would turn out to be a middle ground between Orlando and Palm Beach and be located at (scroll down to Howard Fuch Park @ Paradise Beach - http://www.beachhunter.net/indialantic/) and we will be taking the large pavilion that accommodates 100+ people. I'll even pick up the tab.

The local hotels are about 3 miles away and can be had for around $80.00 a night and I'm working on a better price if I can get an approximate amount of...

possible star wars weekends meet up?

I thought it would be neat to plan a meet up on a certain day during star wars weekends next year
and do a group photo and just chit-chat and get to meet each other.

I'm not sure which place we're going to go to, but I think this is the best opportunity to rekindle the club because I know it's like a nerd holiday. I'm going to try to get all of the others in FCJK to come, and hopefully from there, we can reestablish a leadership role and maybe join SWGFA.

It's with great pleasure that I announce our next event to be held at Heroes Landing in Clermont, FL on Saturday, April 17th from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Shop owners Todd and Stu have graciously offered to host us again and we have accepted.

Star Wars Movie Marathon

Who's interested in a Star Wars marathon? At last night's gathering at Aaron's house we discussed the possibility of a marathon of movies. Who would be interested in attending or hosting something like this? Would we watch all six episodes as we discussed or break it into Trilogies? How about a season of Clone Wars? I'm definitely interested, and in the case of a full marathon, I've never watched all six Star Wars movies back to back. I think perhaps the Orlando System's closest effort was the day the Original Trilogy was released on DVD in 2004. Melanie hosted an all-day party that was a midweek day of fun. We all took the day off and made it a holiday party.

A date and time have yet to be determined, but the location will be Orlando. I won't divulge any details just yet, but I think everyone will be happy. January is sounding like a nice month to shoot for. It's prior to Mega-Con which will give us all a chance to meet and discuss our plans for that particular convention. Of course, by then we should also know the date and location for Celebration V as well.

While details are still being worked out, I just wanted to let everyone know that our next event will be towards the beginning of November. The original plan was to hold something in Tampa around the beginning of October, but there are too many people with too much going on during that month. So, in the next week two, look for an official date to be announced so you can mark it on your calendar. This event will be held in the Tampa area, but the location is still being discussed.

As always, suggestions for any aspect of these events is always welcomed and encouraged.

Help decide the fate of our July Meeting. After we've recovered from the Star Wars Weekends we're going to get back to basics with an Orlando Meeting in July. However, the exact date, time, and location have yet to be decided. Please put in your two-cents' worth so we can get the most people attending.

Trivia has been the most successful part of our meetings in the last six months so I hope Chris will keep up his role as emcee. We've had a lot of fun partly because of the prizes, but also because it gets us all talking about Star Wars in general. Rich's meeting in Port Saint Lucie had a room nearly devoted to items available for sale or trade. I'm very interested in having something like that in the future as well for those that want to participate.
What would you like to see?

It's that time again! We have finally decided on a date and time for our May Event. We will be joining SWGFA member Rich at his home in Port Saint Lucie on May 17^th at 1:00pm. Stay tuned for more details on this as the date approaches. I will be stopping in Orlando to pick up any member that wishes to join us. I'd really like to see a nice showing of members for this as Rich tries to get a local club going in his area. What better way to do this than to show up and support his efforts. This announcement gives everyone more than a month to plan ahead for the event, so let's make it happen!

The next meeting will take place at 2pm on Saturday the 24th of January at the Mall at Millenia Food Court.

OK, folks, by the end of this week I want to nail down a date for the January meeting in Orlando. Throw me some schedule ideas. The last I heard some Tampa voices noted that weekends would be best. I want to make this at a time when the most people can attend.

I'm picturing this at the Mall at Millenia food court, but other ideas are welcome.
