So we're doing SWTM at my school and I'm pretty much spear heading all the campaigns.

Costumes are becoming quite the topic.

Sure I could go a head and sign off on the 3.7k that Buystarwarscostumes.com wants.

But I'd rather give money to people who need it and love making these costumes, or even better take loans on some of the harder to find costumes or just the more expensive ones and promise that if they break we'll replace em.

Anyone willing to help us out?

I don't have a costumer yet actually....

Lightsabers

I've been planning on building my own lightsaber for years now but have never gotten around to it and much of my need has been fulfilled by FX lightsabers and Master Replicas/eFX hilts. However, I still do have a bag of parts that need to be assembled one of these days. Someone on the Rebelscum boards is selling a Graflex 3-cell flash gun and Exactra calculator for parts to make a Darth Vader saber from the original Star Wars. While they're outside my price range, the images of the flash gun really show you how little they were changed to make them into the famous movie props. The calculator contains magnifying "bubbles" that became the lightsaber's activator button.

Russell's Costume Thread

I decided since some other threads are locked to start a new one with for upcoming projects and as with Audrey's this can be my ongoing thread. I've definitely got my work cut out for this year with projects.

First off, in addition to buying my CV passes, I will be getting a shop vac to make to build a vacuform table with. My Godson Legend wants to be Clone Wars Anakin. To go along with this I want to do Clone Wars Obi-wan and I want produce better more professional results. I'm looking forward to the January meeting to hopefully get some pointers from some experienced vacuformers. The cloth parts of these costumes are pretty simple.

This will also give me another costume to wear for CV. I am planning to do another costume (any ideas?), may still consider Baron Papanoida and have thought of trying a McQuarrie Fett, I'll see the results of my first vac attempts first.

I am also planning for Dragoncon next year so considering other...

Windlass Studios

What do you costumers think of the 2009 SDCC offerings and prototypes by Windlass Studios? This is definitely costuming, but taking it into the officially licensed realm (but for now it'll remain in this Fan section). I'm no expert, but they look pretty darn good to me.

Indiana Jones costuming

Does anyone within the sound of my posts do any Indiana Jones costuming?

I'm considering purchasing a Short Round baseball cap and have done a bit of research to find that it's a '20s or '30s New York Giants hat. The picture below shows the closest I can find but I don't know how I'd add the pinstripes.
Any ideas?

Kids SWWE costumes

As some may have noted from comments elsewhere, I'm working on the Amidala Parade Gown for goddaughter and Maul for my godson to wear SWWE. I'm note necessarily keeping my hopes up for the final results as I'm now under some time pressures to complete both. Hopefully soon I'll get some "in the making" pictures to post with some descriptions and will definitely post final pics provided they turn out.

I have discovered I don't like making jewelry.

Steampunk Lightsaber

Stormtrooper Helmet

I've recently acquired a MR e3 Clone helmet and am considering buying a Stormtrooper helmet of some sort. At this point my gameplan is to see if MR marks down their e4 model as their license crashes and burns later this year. Does anyone have any opinions or recommended sources of information about this? (Other than, "Join the 501st.")

I'm looking for accuracy but I also want it to be a nice counterpoint for the e3 Clone. I've done a little homework, but I'm open to any useful information. The most useful info I've come across so far has come from this website in the UK. Thanks in advance.

Garindan, Imperial Spy

Thanks to Audtoo, I finally got some decent pictures of my latest costume: He's the Imperial Spy from the original Star Wars (A New Hope). Also called 'snitch', 'long snoot', and 'Garindan', he is the shadowy alien that follows Luke, Ben and the droids through the streets of Mos Eisley, eventually tipping off the Imperial Stormtroopers as they arrive at docking bay 94.

Monthly Costume Workday

Since some of us want to have spiffy new costumes ready for C4, Susan suggested we have a monthly workday when we can get together for inspiration and sewing help. This would be a day apart from meetings where our intention is to get a lot of work done.

I would be happy to host, since (a) I already have a lot of sewing equipment set up at my house, such as a serger, that we can share; and (b) it would be really dang convenient for me.

Who else is interested? What days/times work for you? We don't have to do the same day every month, so perhaps we can rotate it like the meetings so everyone who is interested can attend at least every other month. PLEASE only submit date/time suggestions if you plan to attend consistently, so that we don't choose dates around the schedules of people who wind up not coming. That said, once the schedule is...

Sci Fi Film at UCF needs costuming help

Hello, we are James and Robert Dastoli, we made five SW fan films in the past, including How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Superlaser and The Vorzyd Gambit. We are in our last year at the film school at UCF and we're making a big scifi film. We need costumes for this of course, and we really don't know the first thing about making costumes. So we decided to come to this forum to see if anyone was interested in helping us out. We need a Mara Jade-ish costume, a Kyle Katarn/Dash Rendar-esque costume, some sort of officer(maybe resembling an imperial officer) costume, and about six soldiers that would have something of a cross between stormtrooper armor and the armor from starship troopers. We are on a shoestring budget, so the costumes would have to be very cheap.

Events/ opportunities to wear costumes!

(I'm cross-posting this from the 'events' section- hope that isn't a problem!)

Having 'debuted' my Garindan costume at Star Wars Weekends, I'm eager to wear it at an event where I can walk around more 'in character' (rather than just marching the parade route).

The next sure-fire event is Vulkon in November, but I'm wondering about these other cons:

Using costumes for a narrated slideshow

Wouldn't it be neat if we figured out what kind of photograph story we could tell with peoples' pre-existing costumes? I'm thinking of an audio/visual "slideshow" of photographs of actors and actresses in costume, where the audio was a narration and sound effects. We'd start with a list of costumes and/or characters that people could play. Remember, no one needs to know how to act, because they'd just be posing for still shots. If they wanted to do the voice, that could be their option, when we create the audio portion of the project. This is just a silly thought, but if we thought of it as something that we might accomplish over a many month period, it might be fun. eh?

Ok, So I was half way done with my white, torn AotC battle outfit, when I found better material and decided to start all over again! I'm so excited about it! It's looking great! I'm even taking the time to make every single seam to be just like hers. I'll post some pix of it when I'm done!
