I liked the above article because I found myself wondering the same thing after I saw Avatar. I thought the movie was just incredibly stunning. After leaving
the movie, I longed for what the prequels could have actually been and (hopefully) what the sequels will be. Both of my kids left Avatar noting that they
thought it was better than SW as well. I'm guessing that Avatar will become to that generation what SW was to my generation.

I think the Avatar experience just went right by me. I saw it in 3-D and all and thought it was enjoyable, but it did not affect me as much as a particularly good superhero movie or something told in a whole new way like Memento. It's hard for me to understand the affect this has had.

Interestingly, yesterday Peter Mayhew mentioned that his favorite movie is Titanic. That's another blockbuster that I just don't see as so special or epic. Enjoyable, yes. Even moving. But the dollars it earned just don't match the quality, as far as I'm concerned.

For example, and I know no one suggested this earlier, but I don't think Titanic has had much effect on film as an art. It maybe set expectations of digital effects in period movies, but I don't see it as a great movie.

It's a beautiful looking film so technically I'm very impressed. The Navi are the next best step in CGI that started with Jar Jar and Gollum and the
3-D was fantastic. The story was interesting but didn't pack the punch I expected after the glowing reviews from almost everyone I've asked. My two

I saw Avatar and enjoyed it very much, but Star Wars doesn't have anything to worry about. We see this all the time some movie comes along like the Matrix
or Spider Man all claiming to be the next Star Wars... then those series fizzle out. anyone still care about the Matrix series? didn't think so. I'm

and Star Wars is still there drawing fans.

I just want to let everyone know that I do like other movies that are out there new or old and Star Wars just happens to be my favorite. I didn't want
it come across that the greatest move out there ( In my eyes ) is Star Wars that is just how I feel. Some people might see Avatar and love it or hate it but
people focus so much on box office numbers and who has the most special effects. If you really want to talk numbers and put out there what move had the biggest
box office draw the number one move for that is Gone With The Wind it blows away all the movies out there today in that category but you have to take into
consideration number of theaters cost of the ticket, inflation and if you put all that in Gone With The wind comes out at the top. But don't get me wrong
Avatar was a very good move and people will love it. Star Wars effected me in a different way than any other move so far I just like the way moves used to be
made I guess I'm just old school. I am glad...

We have a fundamental difference of opinion that once you've had the best* that you never want anything else. You know how critics pick top ten lists? They
may say something is the top, but they still loved nine others. How boring a world we'd have if people started making their top one lists all the

* I'm not arguing that the Star Wars movies are the best movies of all time. Star Wars is easily my favorite franchise of all time and is, I won't
deny, a lifestyle for me. But even when I list my top ten movies I put Star Wars and Indiana Jones in a whole other category. Off to the side, not above. On
occasion I'll include SW, ESB, and Raiders in a list, but generally I keep them separated. I love film and because of the time and place that I grew up,
Star Wars captured my imagination and created a world that I found worth exploring for thirty years. Perhaps Avatar will be as big a part of your

I meant that Avatar would equal to my kids what SW was to us - an incredible movie experience. For better or worse, for the majority of non-hardcore, regular
movie goers, SW was an incredible movie experience - not an entire lifestyle. SW was remembered as a favorite movie of many from the 70's/80's. The
author of the article (and I agreed) stated that Avatar may fill that space for today's generation based on his kids reactions. My kids had the same
reaction as did my niece and my friend's kids.

My statement about not making any more movies is geared towards the fact that seemingly no matter what is ever put out on screen, it will never match SW (the
series, not only the original movie) to some of the folks on this board (and others). If nothing will ever be as grand, why bother watching anything else?

I still haven't seen Avatar so I have no idea what I'll think of the movie. If it's better as a film than any of the Star Wars features I can't
