Attached the left sholder on the frame. I still have to put a skin around the primeter of the sholder. I just wanted to see what it would look like. I may have it on the wrong way.

Inside look.

The sholder.. I think it needs to be flipped around. I am not sure but it looks awesome.

Its been awhile but i do have some progress on R2. I am building him out of HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene plastic)

The shoulders are done. Although i have to drill in the holes on the one on the left but initially are done.

Now i am working on one of the legs now.. One of the hardest parts of this is going to be the curve. I have contacted our founder and the guy who set up the blue prints for the styrene build, his name is Dave Everett, is how he did the curve. He had told me is to use a router. This is going to be tough.

Here are just a few things i have been working on.

This is a slip ring connection kit. I had to put two of these together and it didn't come with the slip ring or cables. I had to learn real fast on how to solder. It was fun putting these together with my chubby fingers. Anyway, these are for dispersing power to areas that need power.

This is the slip ring.. I need one of these. So if you know where i can get one, please let me know.

This is the left shoulder hub that i am working on.. Legs gets connected to the shoulder hub and both gets connected to the body..

More to come in the near future.

Those are particularly recognizable features in R2. Looking forward to seeing them in metallic blue.

Ok, I won't lie. I have been very lazy in the build of R2 but that doesn't mean that i haven't done anything to him. I have ordered some parts that i need for him. The first parts came in are the Utility arms.

These are made with resin plastic. They are very light weight.

I am hoping that this will get me energized again to start building on R2 again. More parts will be here in next few months.

As promised, Here are some photos and video of the part i added to R2

Here is the lazy susan that i added. You are thinking, "Wait, I have seen that on him before". Well before it wasn't attached. Next pic you will see the spacers.

If you look closely you will see the spacers.

Here is the video. The screws that are facing up . Those are the screws that will be attached to the dome.

That is all for now. I have a window on Sunday to work on R2. Just to get an idea of...

It was just a title of his get together. Like they have R2LA. Its a get together to help each other build. Although I didn't get much done but still was fun.

What's R2-FL? Is your friend interested in joining the Alliance? If the droid is named R2-FL, it sounds like a good mascot for us. Heck, we'd love to host the Florida contingent of the R2 Builders.

Its been weeks since i have worked on R2. Recently i went to a fellow builders house this past Saturday for his R2FL build day. A bunch of us showed up and started working on our R2's. I didn't get that much accomplished but what i did get done is a milestone. Well for me it is.. I will post a photo or maybe a video up soon. Thanks for stoping by.

Sorry guys. Its been a long time since i posted here. Just a update. My little finger is feeling much better and hopefully I will work on it this weekend. The picture you see is the R2 i am building. Its long from being finished.

Sorry, its been a few since i posted on here or done anything to my R2. I am nursing a finger injury. Its been over a week and I am ready to get back to building. So bare with me and you should see some progress in the next week or so.

I guess it makes sense that if you're going to go to all the trouble to make an R2 you might as well make all three legs or make it convertible.

As far as I know. No one has installed those cuase i have not seen anyone build just a two legged R2. Once they can RC it then standard two legged R2 is out. I will ask the group and see what they say and get back to you.

I don't blame you for not using them, but I hope some Artoo builder has tried it, as it represents something you see in the Original Trilogy. It wasn't taken out of the old movies. I think we're talking about different tubes. I'm not talking about the gold/bronze ones, I'm meaning the giant black ones that Kenny Baker's legs fit into. In the photo they are at 45-degree angles coming off the barrel into R2's "feet." They are only seen when Artoo is in 2-leg mode and as far as I know only when Kenny Baker is inside the droid.

Worked on the skirt today.

This is why its so time consuming. Each one of these was in two parts. I had to cut out each part and glue them together. Then with my limited tools. I have to file each side to an angle. There are 12 altogether.

I got half of these "ribs" done. I will work on the other half on tuesday.

To answer your question about the tubes on the feet. I will have them on my R2's feet. The reason that the toy don't have them is because they are to small to install them on the feet. If you look on the larger R2's they have them. Like the voice controled one. Those I can get at Lowes or Home Depot. Well that is it for now. I will see you all next time.

The beginning stages of building my life size R2

I had to get a 4' x 8' sheet of Polystyrene hard plastic. I had to cut it in half to get it home. I have to stick the plans on the styrene and cut them perfectly. No mistakes.
