So Star Wars is going to be on TV in 2007. I was just interested to know what you would like to see in the series? I guess they are doing a animated series on the Clone Wars but the live action is not decided, unless someone has heard differant? What is everyones vote? I think seeing the rise of the empire would be cool but maybe they should go with the EU? EDIT '06: Just a note, since there's a SW reference thread, this one's mostly for dedicated Star Wars shows (live action and animated)...

Well said.
I watched the second episode, Gungan Attack, this morning and still had problems with it. The animation was superb but the story really needed some more non-water scenes to keep it interesting. The problem with the water is that it makes everything so dark and dull and relatively slow. I liked seeing it, but because scene after scene were in this same environment it got really boring. I kept waiting for the episode to end, which is unfortunate, because again, it's clear that so much effort was put into these scenes.

One really odd thing was when Ahsoka advises the Mon Cala Prince to get into the center of a whirlpool. I don't think she'd have a better idea of how to handle herself than an underwater native.

Can't say I'm very excited about seeing another underwater episode this week...

Yes, there are a FEW good underwater movies. (I really like "Hunt for the Red October".) But there are so few GOOD movies (or games, or books, or whatever) compared to how many movies (and etc.) have been made. I mean think of all the Civil War movies you can think of. How many are there? Three, four, maybe five at the most. Now how many are good? "Gone with the Wind", "the Blue and the Grey", "Dances with Wolves"... Seems like most of them are good.

Now I can think of MAYBE 3 good undersea films. But if you think about it, they have made dozens of them. It seems like every 4 years or so we get a wave of 3 or 4 of them. It seems like everyone has tried to make one at one point, but so few are any good.

I liked the episodes, but didn't love them. They were made well enough, but just didn't "do it" for me. I think maybe it suffered from a truism I learned the hard way back in my video game making days: "The only thing more boring then a tank simulator, is a submarine simulator." The point is, it may SOUND cool to have all this neat underwater stuff, but for some reason it NEVER sells. I believe there is just no way to make under water as cool as space. I don't know why, but it is true.

spoiler alert:

Is anyone else watching this stuff? I just watched The Citadel (3.18) on the official site and was very impressed. The lighting really showed off the new models begin used for the main characters. And is this the first episode that we get hair moving? I'll have to check out The ForceCast to see if Jimmy Mac was satisfied. I liked R2's Battle Droids and I really liked the carbon freezing. I presume that the Clone Wars heroes didn't suffer the hibernation sickness and blindness seen in RotJ because the Bespin facility was "crude," but it was odd that they didn't so much as need to shake off after being "thawed."

Is this the first time we've seen the Episode III-style Clone helmet (worn by Echo)?
Some intense episodes, these last few. The Nightsisters trilogy with Savage Oppress and Asajj Ventress really melded into a nice feature. I thought I had really thought of something until I remembered that these episodes had been shown at those special previews last year. I imagine they looked great on the big screen. The pace increased till the third episode climaxed and Count Dooku's neverending supply of Force lightning was exhilarating. I really liked these.

Then came Overlords, which I just finished in the last half hour. Wow.
While the visuals seemed to borrow ideas from mythology, Lord of the Rings, Tron, and Avatar it all came together in a very intrigueing way. I don't want to ruin it but I'll say that I loved the three visitors that individually visited Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka. I like the voicework on all three and was especially happy to hear a certain Swedish voice playing a part. Really, really nice stuff.

The timeline hasn't bugged me that much... I sort of enjoy seeing an episode, and realizing it took place during events I already saw. (The Clone training one sticks out to me as an example, when you watch these misfits and realize THESE are the heroes who took back the base on ... erm... okay, the names are slipping my mind right now... but there's an earlier episode where a bunch of newly-graduated clones realize there's a problem and take back a base that the droid army has conquered... and then you realize later that it's this bunch of misfits that almost didn't graduate at all. It was pretty cool, to me.)
It's why I don't like the new way they've packaged The Chronicles of Narnia... LWW is *supposed* to be first, you're not supposed to know how the lamppost got there before you read it! LOL

I am much happier with Ahsoka's new outfit. My 11 yr old really wants an Ahsoka costume, and with that first one, I was not at all happy with the idea. (The skimpiness...

A couple of thoughts on that. I know when you say "front to back" you mean season by season, but one extra little tidbit about the show, for better or worse, is that the timeline is all over the place. There are lots of s3 episodes that happen at various times before, after, and during s1.

Also, the Clone Wars novel that tells the story used in the Clone Wars movie/episodes features a far better version of Ahsoka than you get in the movie. One of my favorite aspects of her character is that her species is very savage and predatory. It really affected my more than the mousy, tube-topped padawan that was animated in the beginning. And yes, I know she's tough in the movie and all, but the big cartoon eyes and other things really made it hard to take her seriously next to characters that carried the weight and history of Obi-Wan and Anakin.

Eventually, my fandom will win out and I'll have to bite the bullet and watch it front to back, and while Lucas hasn't exactly been on his A game much lately, I've never seen him produce anything that's ALL bad. I'm sure there will be at the very least bits and pieces of TCW that I'll enjoy once I sit down and actually watch it. Part of my major disappointment in TCW movie is:
A) I was expecting alot more clone-centered action
B) Asohka, at least in the movie, really exemplifies what it ISN'T to be a Jedi, and successfully confounded me as to why the council allowed her the title of Padawan when she clearly wasn't ready for it, and
C) After the upswing of Episode III, I was really hoping that Lucas was on a major comeback streak..I played the movie up a little too much in my mind, which is really my own fault.

I think you're probably right about that regarding Mandalorians, and I have to say those are my least favorite shows. I actually do like the show quite a bit (though I haven't seen an ep since Thanksgiving). The look of the humans in the show still is my biggest hurdle, but I love the way there are so many explorations of things we've seen in the movies. I hope at some point you sit down with someone that knows the show and can handpick you 6-10 of the best episodes so you can decide what you think about them. The movie (created as a few episodes initially) is not indicative of where the show has gone. It's much better than that.

Also, the Karen Traviss book of the Clone Wars movie is amazing- far better than the show.

I appreciate the animation and all, but from what I've heard, Lucas really tampers with the canon more than he should (I could be wrong, because I really haven't watched it, but I understand that he messed with Mando culture, Death Watch, and pretty much negated all of Karin Traviss's works).

Anyone else notice that Cat Tabor is almost never not making Padme cry out for help whether it be to the senate, the Jedi or someone else? She does an amazing job as the voice of Padme, but it's not very often that she's not having to put out some serious emotion.
