Vanity Fair released another Star Wars article in conjunction with the release of JW Rinzler's The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, this time with director Irvin Kershner. Despite our new Interviews thread, I've decided to put an excerpt of this interview here in the ESB thread. The article certainly focuses on Empire and it'll be a nice thing to find if anyone ever goes back through the thread right before or after watching the movie.

Somehow I missed these details until just now. That's awesome, and many thanks for the description. I absolutely wish I could have been there and am glad to even know someone that went.

Here's a description of another really cool charity screening of Empire this past Wednesday featuring Harrison Ford and a lot of other big names. This is a really cool initiative by Lucasfilm to raise money for some great causes.

Also, IGN did a short article featuring directors and staffers giving their opinions about Episode V.

Lastly, I had occasion to watch The Empire Strikes Back last night (at home) myself (to celebrate the actual 30th Anniversary) and loved it...

Well, Courtney and I left Tampa at 7:00am on Saturday morning, arrived in Chicago at 11:00am, drove to North Aurora and quickly changed at Matt's house. Rich also met us there and the four of us drove back towards the city. We stopped at Brandon's house, parked the car and then took the train into the city. We arrived in downtown mid afternoon, walked to Bennigan's, took a short cab ride to The Field Museum and walked in by 5:15pm.

Once inside the museum, we were escorted through the main lobby to a section that was blocked off for the reception. There was a table...

I mentioned this event to my wife and she said if I could get a ticket she wanted me to go but I forgot, was it hard to get the ticket. One thing that I really want to do is meet George Lucas and I hope another one of these events comes up again and Chris if you ever get info about one of these events and can get tickets let me know I like going to an event that the money goes to a good cause and of coarse meeting George Lucas. I think I remember him telling us all to enjoy the film prior to the start of it. Then, he left and the movie started. I can't remember everything right this second as I'm still very out of it from the weekend.

Yeah, I'm not one to poo poo the Special Editions and revisions, but it's good to be reminded how darn good the original versions are once in a while. I chose the "unadulterated" version of Empire to watch this month. You know, the one that was released in double-DVD sets. I watched Empire as it originally appeared and thought it was just great. I really enjoyed the pacing, the teachings of Yoda, Hoth and Bespin, and the introductions of Lando Calrissian and Boba Fett. Without a doubt, this is still my favorite episode.

I am a frustrated filmmaker-wannabe so I generally "watch" the commentary on every movie I can find. Often I've even listened to it on movies that I don't even like much just to learn about the process. It's especially easy while computing or doing chores around the house. If you've recently seen the movie it often doesn't require you to watch the screen. I've been doing this since commentaries started when laserdiscs were the videophiles preferred media.

As for Carrie Fisher's involvement, I know they chose her for two reasons- she's a central character that would participate and could tell "I was there" stories and because she's had an ongoing professional relationship with Lucas over the years. It doesn't get a lot of airtime, but she has been a very active script doctor in Hollywood for many years.

Can't he... or won't he? I know Yoda and Ben don't want Luke to leave Dagobah to follow Vader's bait, but once he indeed goes, why doesn't he receive any help from Ben?
