My biggest problem with helmets is the combination of the money they cost and the space they take. I'm out of storage space and keeping another 10 cubic feet box is not something I can do right now. That's already assuming that I wouldn't be displaying it, and that's no fun. For me it's not just the money, it's the real estate required to own the helmets. When I get a bigger house this may change, but that's where I am right now. I really look forward to seeing your helmets displayed, though. They are definitely works of art.

I think you will regret later.
I was unable to secure the Vader or X wing through EFX, cash was just not available for down payments at the time. Hoping to get luck on the wait list.
But even if I don't score any new helmets, I still have my McVader & ESB Vader to enjoy. LOVE them, no regrets.

I don't foresee that, but I know I'd love it if I had it. Looking forward to seeing yours and Sharon's. One nice thing is that there are new versions coming out every few years so it won't be impossible to get a Vader helmet if you really want one.

Sorry to hear that man. I know once you see this thing on a shelf somewhere, the terrible feeling of regret is bound to creep up on you.

I just started the process to cancel my Vader helmet pre-order. I've accumulated far more this year than I have liquidated so I can't justify such a large expense.

Chris, Great review on Rebelscum on the Luke Skywalker X Wing helmet very detailed article and awesome photos. Also the helmet looks good on you now you just need a 1:1 scale X Wing to go with it.

I've almost completely decided to pass on the BSG Viper helmet. It's not because "Star Wars is more important," because the classic BSG was hugely important to me during my Star Wars childhood. It's mainly because the Viper helmet is a distant second to the Cylon helmet that I really want. I've already owned a fan-made Cylon helmet and I'm really wanting an official replica. If I could display a Cylon next to my Stormtrooper and Clone helmets, I'd have all my favorites. I also wonder if we'll ever see a non-signature edition of the Viper helmet. Or possibly a stunt version. Either of those would be equally satisfying to me as this dual signature edition.

I think you will have plenty of time, EFX seems to be behind schedule with releases. But they are certainly worth the wait.

I've pretty much decided that I can only get the Vader helmet if I can sell enough, between now and when it comes out, to pay for it. I've been fairly lazy about selling (though I have been organizing) but I got a big shot in the arm just now as I sold my Marvel Encyclopedia for $200. Woohoo!

EFX is reporting the Limited Vader helmet SOLD OUT. There are a few AD's out there that still have some up for pre order.
No pressure, guys. If you want one, you might want to get an order in asap.

The original Don Post Deluxe from the '90's was freaking sweet! The thing was $1200 or more. A friend had asked me to get one signed by Prowse at an early SW Weekends @ Disney. Had to lug this beautiful thing around at the park, and guard it with my life. Hated having it signed, I thought it took away from the prop. Hated sending it back, really wanted to keep it. I want to say it was '97 or '98? The fan made helmet is a recast of the high end deluxe, with correct paint apps.
The EFX Vader helmet is far superior to anything else we've seen, and the cost is pretty reasonable. The MR Ep 3 Vader was the same, if not more? If you get it through EFX, they offer a payment plan when it is ready to ship.

Too bad about Redford. That episode would be a dealbreaker for me. They have some good sales, but will proceed with caution when dealing with them. Thanks for sharing.

Let me quickly tell you what happened with Redford just so i don't plant a vague cloud over them for no reason. They had an inept customer service agent that gave me several bad pieces of information. I asked her to confirm that I had paid for two orders, she did, then after a few days a different customer service agent starting answering me with the original's email address. I had changed credit cards and could not confirm whether I'd previously paid and then they said the first person was wrong, that I'd still need to pay [I hope I had not previously paid]. The first agent also quoted an incorrect lower price to me, and they refused to honor this price saying that the agent no longer worked there. Conversely, I've ordered probably 5 times from them over the last few years and all items have arrived well.

The Vader helmet is important to me as well. I've tended to focus on See-Threepio, Darth Vader and Stormtroopers because those three helmets really...

The McQ Vader arrived yesterday. Massive box! I REALLY need a bigger house.

This has to be my favorite piece to date. Have always been a fan of McQuarrie's work, even when it wasn't popular. Had all the portfolio's, long before anyone wanted them, and anything that was offered with his art. Any regret I've felt by getting rid of previous collectibles & toys has been forgotten by the beauty of this helmet. Beyond WOW!

But now I am faced with spending more $$ in the near future, to display it properly. It is too big to fit in the Ikea cases, and none of my acrylics fit. I almost feel like building an altar for it. (Seriously, I am going to create a separate display.)

For a first helmet purchase, this will be hard to top. Could I afford it? NO! EFX made it easier to add something like this by allowing payment plan options. And I chose...

Thanks for the suggestion, Sharon, about looking for an authorized dealer. I had a bad experience with Redford Films earlier this year, but I couldn't beat their price and they did not require a deposit, so tentatively I've now got a pre-order on the Limited Edition Darth Vader helmet. Free shipping to boot.

Oi. I've just stared at the thing for the last 20 minutes and have thought about it several times today. I'd probably be just as happy with the Limited Edition (about half are left at this writing) since it's arguably better than the Legend. Then again, that's entirely based on what your definition of "better" is. I got the eFX Stormtrooper helmet, the first product they released, and while I love it, I'd probably be better off with the stunt version. I don't like looking at the "vents" in the grey areas that are made with haphazard Sharpie marks (accurate to the original). I think I actually kind of prefer the more idealized look. This Vader Limited Edition probably better represents my amalgam of Darth Vader's helmet. Is this a rationalization to save $200 on something already sold out? Perhaps.

But I'm not even ready to pull the trigger just yet. The money I can just barely justify. My problem is space. I already have five or six giant boxes on the floor of my Star...

After some serious thinking, I decided to hold out for the Limited Vader. It was a tough choice. But I got to thinking how nice 2 Stormtooper helmets would look to display with Vader, and chose to go with the less expensive Limited. Besides, it is BEAUTIFUL. I am very confident with all Gino's work, so feel that we are getting one of the best collectibles made to this date. (well, until they do an ESB Vader)
Campbell, you may want to secure one of these. Not trying to be a bad influence, just sayin.....You could always order on with an AD, so you wouldn't lose a deposit if you changed your mind.

Well, the Legend version of the Vader helmet sold out in four minutes today. According to the list we have going on Rebelscum, 60 members were able to place a pre-order. I cannot wait to see this in person!

I got good news from eFX. I ordered the Stormtrooper helmet the other day and just got an e-mail saying the shipping cost had actually gone down. They originally quoted $37.50 but lowered it to $21.32. Now if they'd only lower the cost of the helmet!

Has anyone seen what's on tap for eFX? Their McQuarrie Vader helmet looks amazing but I'm sure I won't be able to afford it. They also have a nice Episode II Clone helmet and an Ahsoka lightsaber coming out.
