Megacon 2010, 12-14 March |
Lead | ||
|
Just when you get finished with one convention, another comes. As this year flies by, Megacon 2010 is around the
corner. Dates are March 12-14th. At the Orange County Convention center. Hopefully, prayfully the same place C5 is going to be. They already have a start of
celeberty guest line up. You can check it out here. I think you will be happy with the line up. I
know I will be.

Good reminder. And the guests at this writing are pretty great: the eye-maker from Blade Runner, Darth Maul, Lando, Chewbacca, the chief R2-operator (right up
your droid-makin' alley Aaron), and the real Boba Fett. More Star Wars guests, artist Adam Hughes, Number One and the original BSG Apollo will make this a
good year for meeting the talent. I think I may have to volunteer again this year.

Yeah we call him Uncle Don. Hopefully he will join the Southern R2 Builders club for dinner.

I am so there. I can finally get the Maul photos signed. Oh and a little thing like the appearance of Mr. Bulloch make it a must attend for me. The others are
just icing on the cake
Please keep me informed as we get closer as to what we will be doing.

Campbell, would you like to try and get some flyer's together by the time this convention hits so we are prepared to bring them with us next year? I know
that last time was a bit rushed. I'd like to do something a bit more professional looking with our logo on it this time and possibly even a date for an
event with contact info and all that jazz. We could try to plan an Orlando event for a month later to drum up some new attendance.

You know it kills me that you guys seem to always pass me up on doing things like this. You do know I have over 12 years experience as a graphics designer.
That being said here are a few tips for you. Get some good pics of the group to put into the card/brochure (whatever you guys plan on making). Something that has good group shots. Maybe something random and maybe something with everyone will all smiles. List everything you can about the club and the things we do, i.e. trivia with prizes, selling/trading, that sort of thing, but make sure you don't go overboard with it. Less is more in a lot of these types of things. Of course list the website and the areas in which the meetings take place. Also make sure to leave it open to new locations. "Always looking for more areas to meet" that sort of thing. Most important. Make sure ANY logos, pictures and/or graphics that are to be use are high quality. AT LEAST 200dpi. Also, spend some money on this. Go to Kinkos or somewhere similar to get these printed. Kinkos has a bunch of different ways to print and cut down this sort of thing. I am sure group members would be willing to put in some cash for this. They can help you figure out what size you will want to make it and can tell you how much of a "live area" you will have on it so as to not have text or graphics cropped off. Well there you have it. Use it. Don't use it. Totally up to you guys. Hope it helps.

And if you are looking to cutting cost on printing. I work for a publishing company. We have an in house printer. He charges way less for color then Kinkos. I
can talk to the print man who is also my friend and see what he can do. He may even print it for free, i will see.

Sorry Tony, I totally forgot that you had a background in graphic design. If you can come up with something, by all means have at it. My main concern is
just getting something out there with our information.

I am not too interested in the guests for this year's MegaCon, but having just read Steve Sansweet's excellent new 1000 Collectibles book, I can't
wait to get into a dealer's room.

I am guessing by that you mean that you already have most of their autographs. Other than that, I think it is a decent group of guests.

Me, too about Kersh.
But the great advantage to Star Wars Weekends (or disadvantage if you can't get to Disney early) is that the autographs are free. -Campbell

Just a reminder that Megacon will be here in Megacon March 12-14 next year. I was talking to Robert Hendrickson a official Star Wars artist. Many of might know
him. He is considering getting a table for the artist alley.
