Orlando System Meeting, February 20th, evening |
Lead | ||
|
Anyone up for a small meeting of the Orlando System some time in February? Where would you like to meet? Aaron mentioned the Mall at Millenia, which would be fine by me, but we're all open to different ideas. Weekends seem to be the best time for GFA meetings but ours may be small enough to accommodate the individuals that post interest here. It'd be nice to get your feedback on current events, the upcoming excitement of conventions and Celebration, and be among old friends and new.

We can do that. If it turns out to be a small meeting we might just make it a get together at a house. We should decide in the next week or so so people can
plan.

You know I'll go with whatever is decided but it would be nice for a smaller meeting too. I certainly enjoy the larger GFA meetings but it's harder to have longer conversations with some people I don't see as often

Yeah, I think we're all learning that as we grow. It'll be nice, as I want the OS to thrive in addition to building the SWGFA.

Any interest from the peanut gallery on this? I will be out of town next week, but would love to put something together in the second half of the month. Any suggestions of days or locations for a small gathering? Robert said the weekend so maybe another Saturday night? The 20th or 27th?

I believe the 20th is good for me. The 26th is my birthday so the 27th i think my wife will be doing something for me.

I'm certain I've got to work on the 20th, but odds are pretty good that I could work in the morning, so I could do something by 4:30 or 5pm.

Ok guys. I am looking into the 20th and see if we can meet at my place. I can have about 10 to 15 people over for this local meet. I will let you all know in the next couple of days. I have to check my schedule.

Hey guys, I'll see you all this Saturday! I have to work, but I'm going to try and leave a bit early so I can make it. Might be a bit late.
We have some very exciting things to discuss.

You know this might have been something I would have liked to attend had I had more then two days notice. I just today got an invite on facebook from Aaron about this. If not for that I would have had no idea to even look in here for anything about it. Thanks. It's good to see my feelings of being left out and alone are yet again justified.

Boba Rex wrote:Tony, The Orlando guys have been discussing this since the 21st of January, so it's not a secret or anything. This is a local meet up for the Orlando System, hence why I didn't sent out an email to everyone. I wasn't planning on attending, but some things have happened in the last few weeks and I'm attending so I can have a meeting with Campbell and Richard, so there's no need to feel left out. Of course, anyone is invited, but this is not one of our big get togethers and I am not driving the Falcon over either. As it stands, it will only be about six people. You are welcome to ride over with me in the Camaro if you like.

Boba Rex wrote:As I wrote on this thread nearly a month ago, everyone is welcome. This one's a small one at Aaron's house so I didn't put it on the meetings section. As Aaron's space is limited I personally only went out of my way to ask Orlando people via Facebook. I am glad to have Rich and Chris coming, but I don't mind admitting that I didn't even invite them via Facebook. The GFA is something I'm very proud of, but I don't want the Orlando System to feel like they've been lost in the mix. There was some discussion at, and after, our Clermont meeting that it's really hard to actually discuss anything with such a large group so this local meeting was partly a response to that. We've never had a private meeting and it's not my intention to start; Tony you're always welcome. Since you mentioned that you "had no idea to even look in here for anything" this might be a good time to remind everybody that we can see when a new post has been added when the section sports an icon like this: Tony, the last thing I want is bad blood between any of us. If you honestly believe that I'm/we're trying to single you out, I hope you'll rethink your position. There's few enough of us fans and the whole point of these clubs is to bring us together. -Campbell Help the SWGFA by buying through Amazon. |

Let me start by saying I am sorry. And Campbell I know you guys would never try to single me out or do anything malicious towards me. The problem is it tends to happen anyway and that is almost just as bad for me. The idea that I am that last person, that forgotten person. I would rather you guys hate me and shut me out on purpose, at least then I would know someone was thinking of me even if it was in a bad way.
I also know that this has A LOT more to do with me then you guys. And it isn't even just you guys either and that is what makes it worse. I have had people I used to work with completely ignore "friend" request on facebook or any other kinds of communications from me and I have no idea as to why. While I still worked at the Tribune there were a few people I used to hang out with all the time at work and joke around with. When all the changes happened 2 years ago and I moved my desk they never came over to say a word to me. I tried to stay in touch with them by going over to their desk or emailing them only to get nothing in return. Just last weekend I had a "friend" get ready to walk right past me and my family while entering the mall until I said hi to her. Even then I could tell she didn't want to be there. And that only scratches the surface of it. All my life I had to deal with this. You would think I would be used to it by now. I see how all you guys are. How you hang out all the time, or at least when you get a chance to. I can see it when Roman, Will and David go to Chris' house and they all get along so well with his mom and dad and sister. I see it when everyone is together at the meetings. I go and pray that maybe one day I won't feel like an outsider but it never happens. Sure I joke around and have some good laughs along with everyone else but it doesn't last. I act the way I do, sometimes a little too much so, because I try to get peoples attention. Not because I am some kind of attention hound, contrary to what you might be thinking because of this post, but because I am hoping that maybe I would be able to connect with someone. You know while we were driving up to the last meeting at the comic shop I asked Chris and Roman what SW stuff they got for Christmas. They went on about how Roman only got something SW from Chris and Chris told me about what Courtney had gotten him. They enjoyed talking about it, so much so that they didn't even ask about me. They just kept up their conversation as if I wasn't there anymore. You guys have no idea what it is like to have no friends. Someone who you can hang out with or even just talk to on a regular basis online or something. Someone you can talk SW with of Transformers with or anything with. My wife hates my collecting habits regardless of what she says. So after all the cool things that came out this week during Toy Fair I get to talk to no one about them. I have had to deal with this for the better part of my life. It's time like these that make me realize that it IS me more then anyone else. I always wondered why I so enjoy watching TV with my girls, or more to the point watching their TV shows. Hannah Montana, iCarly, Kim Possible and many more. In these shows you have a group of friends that would do anything for the other no matter what and I want that so very much. You guys can't possibly understand. And in that lays the problem...you can't understand. No one ever has and it is doubtful no one ever will. Oh and Campbell not everyone, myself included, reads the forums or at least every forum post. And to get an invite two days prior...that is why I was irked about it. Again my apologies for making such a big deal over this. For that I truly am sorry. I am sorry to anyone who actually read my rant as well. done...

I sence a disturbance in the force. I hope that I didn't cause this bad juju. I guess i took it for granted that everyone reads this post. I also thought you lived in the Orlando area. Even if I knew that you lived in Tampa or other areas. I still would have invited you. Also I didn't think of what day it was when I sent out the invite. I for one like you as a good friend. I think you are a cool cat. Before I met this group and the R2 Builders group. I was in the same boat you were as far as friends go. All I had was my wife and her family. You know not one of them is a Star Wars fan. As much as I love them we have nothing in common. Lucky my wife loves the movies at least. So I also appologize if I have caused this disturbance. I hope you can come and if you can't. At least there are a lot of Star Wars to look forword to this year. SWW, Megacon, FX, and C5. The grand daddy of the SW cons. MTFBWYA

Boba Rex wrote:Apology accepted, Captain Boba. But for my part I didn't forget you, Tony. As I stated above, this started as a small Orlando System gathering. I didn't forget anyone, I outright intentionally only actively invited Orlando-folk while never intending that to exclude anyone else that might like to come. A lot of what Aaron said, goes for me as well. I really enjoy hanging out with my Star Wars friends, but between work and my desire to spend time with my wife (who tolerates my Star Wars love, at best) and dog, I really don't do it except for these meetings. That's why I like to check in on the boards as much as I can. I know message boards are outmoded for many people, but I really like expressing my opinions in these places, especially when I'm doing it in a local community of people I've actually met. For example, I've had good experiences with lots of Rebelscum users but I don't know most of them personally so I get far less satisfaction from those conversations than the ones here. If you dig on these boards you'll see that in addition to all opinions Star Wars, I have wanted to share things from movie and restaurant reviews to and random walks that I've taken when epiphanies hit and rocket launches that charged me up. Anyone will tell you, almost all of my non-meeting communication with the group happens on these boards and I've been fighting for years to get them more active. Aaron, Tony lives in Town 'n' Country, pretty close to Tampa, in Hillsborough County. See you guys tonight! -Campbell Help the SWGFA by buying through Amazon. |
