Star Wars Weekends 2011, 20 May-12 June

Posts: 81 Sat, Aug 21, 2010 4:48 PM *Land O' Lakes*	Tags : None Premature a bit? Probably. However, I am feeling withdrawal symptoms. (Hopefully fx con will have a few decent "gets"). That being said, I figured we could get an early start on next year's SWW. My thoughts: Want: Warwick Davis and/or Jeremy Bulloch to host. Both of these guys are super nice, and that's not a knock on Jay Laga'aia or Ashley Eckstein, who would be fine choices as well. Also, really want Tem Morrison to come after missing him at CV. Probables (predictions): I am banking on Peter Mayhew, Ray Park, and Matt Wood being there. All great guys. Hope: A big namer making an appearance (Carrie, Anthony, etc.) Out-there prediction: Silas Carson comes. (Based on nothing). I totally understand the withdrawal from Celebration V. It was so much concentrated SW goodness. I can't wait for more. Star Wars Weekends will be a nice return for us Floridians. Star Wars Weekends is an annual event at Disney's Hollywood Studios held over 4-6 weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) around Memorial Day. Usually 2-5 celebrities show up for interviews and autograph sessions, there are Star Wars characters available for photo interactions, lots of exclusive merchandise, and special events like kids trivia contests, kids Jedi Training, and an evening show called Hyperspace Hoopla. For 2011 I'm betting we'll also see some of the programming that was exclusive to the Last Tour of Endor last week. I think there might possibly be Star Wars fireworks, and I feel confident that we'll see some re-working of the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular to include Star Wars characters. I was told that that was the reason that he slowed down his appearances after being virtually everywhere in the early 00s. Also, I'm moving this thread to the Events section. I was thinking about going this past Star Wars weekend but since CV was not too far away, at the time, I decided to skip it and just go to CV. Sounds like something neat for next year!

Posts: 81 Sun, Aug 22, 2010 1:16 PM *Land O' Lakes*	It is definately worth it. Maybe I am just lucky, but the whole "getting there extremely early" thing hasn't been a factor for me. I went to weekends 3+4 last year and got in line at 7 AM both days. I ended up getting a stand-by ticket for Billy Dee Williams (and his autograph later, phew!) and confirmed times for Ray Park, Peter Mayhew, and Jeremy Bulloch. Yes, it is a hot 2 hours, but not bad at all. I hope this year that I get an early autograph session for the guests and get to take in some other events. For Billy Dee, I ended up waiting for about 9 1/2 hours to get my stand-by ticket taken care of (which I found wasn't necessary, but I also wanted to be sure to get it--the standby system is quite good).

You know, I really have no idea how they figure out how many weekends there will be. I assume it has something to do with the attendance from the year before. If that happens to be the case we might be in luck, because business was a-boomin' this past May. Also, with Star Tours II opening most likely on the first weekend, it makes sense to extend the Grand Opening into extra SWW. While at Celebration V I didn't have a lot of time for panels, which are often my favorite part. However, I realized that the reason I could safely miss a Boba Fett panel or something with Lorne Peterson is because I get to see them so regularly at Star Wars Weekends. People forget how lucky we are to have them. Not having children, I don't need to get my face painted, take a photo with a castmember dressed like Luke, or go to the Jedi Training Academy. I do, though, love to attend the interviews, stand around the signing areas to talk to the celebrities, meet authors, see Behind the Scenes presentations, and buy exclusive merchandise. Unfortunately, we won't be seeing Dave Prowse or Kenny Baker at Star Wars Weekends again. For two very different reasons, mind you. Dave has been asked to not attend anymore Lucasfilm sanctioned events and Kenny Baker cannot travel overseas anymore. Peter Mayhew is a given for at least one weekend in 2011. The cold weather makes it a lot better since it's on streets that many of us are very familiar with.
