Orlando is a great vacation destination and with Disney it works perfect for family's and people just on vacation there is so much to choose from you have Universal Studios and Sea World and tons of places to eat so what better location to have Celebration at than Orlando. I am game on having all Celebrations here it is a perfect fit we should start a petition now to have it here every 2-3 years.

Steve Sansweet: "To me, this is the perfect place."
I think that carries a certain amount of weight. I'm probably reading too much into this, but it sure beats "no comment." |

I asked a few of my west coast friends how they rated Orlando, the convention center, and CV in general and their responses were very positive. Our weather wasn't much of an issue since everything took place indoors. They were pleased that all the lines were staged indoors (at ComicCon and CIV many lines were outside). Our convention center is spacious with an open layout so everything was easy to find within a few mintues' walk; personally I felt that LA was a bit of a maze, it took me three days to know my way around. As an overall convention experience, my friends actually rated CV higher than ComicCon, in particular citing the way the lines were handled (in addition to being indoors in the a/c, wristbands guaranteed your spot in the theatre, so they were able to take turns going back to the hotel for a shower or getting a meal) and the fact that they were actually able to get into everything that they wanted to attend. I do hope that the next one comes our way, although next time I think I will be booking a hotel room for a more relaxed and leisurely con experience!

We never encountered traffic, though we had a direct route that led right behind the center and since I was riding with bro-in-law, we got to go to disabled parking. I do admit I wouldn't mind trying for the Peabody next time. <.<;; |

For what it's worth, when the bid was put in for Orlando last year, it was put in for two Celebrations... That means nothing at this point, and I suspect that final decisions may be literally years away, but it is something to think about.
It's a tough sell for people on the West Coast, especially some of them in California that already feel slighted that they don't get Star Wars Weekends, but we do have the best infrastructure for this size of convention for this audience. Then again, we may have had more European visitors here since Orlando is already a major destination for them. I especially agree with Audrey- even living a few minutes away, I'll probably get (probably share) a hotel room if it comes back to Orlando. -Campbell Help the SWGFA by buying through Amazon. |

The west coast has Comic-Con at the same place every year so why not have all the Celebrations on the east coast every 2 years. It works for us.

Very good point Rich . I actually never thought of it that way. Even though I live here, I thought it would be unfair to everyone else if celebrations continued in FL every time. But it could work that you go to CA for Comic Con, NY for Toy Fair and FL for Celebration.
Another thing Rich reminded me about is how much more affordable our area is compared to other cities. |

LA was the worst when you left the convention center there was no place to eat and if you found a restaurant it was expensive. At least in Orlando you could leave the convention center and walk to Red Lobster. |

We really don't get good conventions here. (sorry, Megacon & FX do not count) SWW is not really a convention. I have a strong feeling that we will see CVI here. As a rule, they have been spacing them 3 years apart. http://www.OrlandoMobileTinting.com |

Yeah.....let's make this happen.
As a transplant, I always thought "Why doesn't X come to my town?" Now, I realize--stuff is in FL...CA...NYC....because there is stuff to do after "the thing." Making Orlando the permanent home of American celebrations makes total sense. They can cross-promote at Disney during SWW and since that is an annual event, why not add the mega conference dedicated to SW so that people can enjoy all that the area has to offer? I mean really.....does anyone besides Peyton Manning's parents and fans of driving in circles get excited about going to Indy? |

What were the other contenders this year? Chicago; Baltimore? I suppose Chicago's got a lot to do, but Baltimore's about an hour away from DC, and I don't think a lot of people are going to go on John Waters and Barry Levinson walking tours.

I think that Orlando will really work well for future cons! That area is like the tourist zone and actually easier to navigate compared to other cities.
