There are few movies that lend themselves more perfectly to 3D; from the Death Star trench run to the Tatooine Podrace, the Star Wars Saga has always delivered an entertainment experience that is completely immersive. Presented by Twentieth Century Fox and Lucasfilm Ltd., the cutting edge conversion will take that immersion to the next thrilling level, with Industrial Light & Magic supervising the project. Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace is expected to be released theatrically in 2012. A release date has not yet been determined. "Getting good results on a stereo conversion is a matter of taking the time and getting it right," said John Knoll, Visual Effects Supervisor for Industrial Light & Magic. "It takes a critical and artistic eye along with an incredible attention to detail to be successful. It is not something that you can rush if you want to expect good results. For Star Wars we will take our time, applying everything we know both aesthetically and technically to bring audiences a fantastic new Star Wars experience." Had a great time, and after the movie me and my friends went looking for toys. My user name should be MoK13, still trying to figure this out.

I also won't mind seeing the numbers jump up to add to the box office totals either. Maybe we can unseat whatever has passed any or all of the Star Wars movies for top grossing film. We started hearing about this before the release of Ep 3, so I'm happy to hear that there's an actual date (at least a year) when it's going to happen. I'd imagine Lucas would like it to be roughly the same time during each of the next six years (one per Episode, as previously stated). I think they'll be Summer releases, but that's a gamble to put an old prequel against the big Summer fare of 2012. The Special Editions of 1997 came out in the first three months of the year, but they were far more popular than the industry figured. Between all of the various groups in the area, we may be able to get a price break to watch it on opening weekend. Not sure how far in advance they start working out details like that, and what showings they would sell group tickets to, but it may be worth investigating. Who knew Rick McCallum was a "press secretary" now? "We’re doing 3D versions of all six films, one a year, starting in February of next year. We start with [Episode] one and go all the way through six, totally chronological. One a year, if they work.
