Lately during my various toy runs I have been running into more and more Star Wars fans. I think the time has come to organize a fan club for this region. With that said I would appreciate any advice, and or assistance that can be offered in making this happen.

We would absolutely love to see this happen! Starting more clubs around the state of Florida is exactly what the SWGFA is all about.
Please, if you have any questions or need some direction, Campbell and I are ready, willing and able to assist. A few general suggestions: 1. Gauge an interest by word of mouth and online message boards. Start spreading the word like wildfire and see where it goes. 2. Seek out a suitable place to hold a first meeting that is safe and convenient for most people. We met in the local mall food court for years. 3. Don't get discouraged. You'll find that often times, people are a lot less committed than you are. Keep at it and stay positive. Even if you only have 8-10 people in your group, as long as you guys are actively meeting on a regular basis, staying in contact and making plans, you are doing great.

Chris Wyman wrote:Nice guidelines, Chris. Ian, I'd love to see this happen as well. I know Kyzman is in Deltona and he's got friends up there that love Star Wars as well. I really like that you're wanting to make this happen and hope that we can help in any way possible. I also think the The Han Shot First Coast Club is a pretty clever name. That's probably the kind of thing that you can figure out once you get a few local people talking about it. Facebook can be helpful in networking as well. Once you have a few people that would like to network you can create a group there. Also direct them back here. We're in the market to host any Florida Star Wars fandom. We're here to help bind the Florida SW fans together. -Campbell Help the SWGFA by buying through Amazon. |

Thanks both of you for the advice, and to you Jawas for the name idea. I work for the city so I know when all the park pavilions are available to finding a place isn't too bad. Mostly just a matter of getting the word out and spread. I have talked to a few of the guys I have met so far and at least 3 are interested and will pass on the word. I am thinking about making up a flyer of some sort to post on the walmart board or something.

How about the Space Coast Cruisers?
I like the Hyperspace Coast one, but does that really encompass the St. Aug area? Love that logo, though. Keep the momentum up, though, gents. I really, really would like to see some new blood in here. Chris, Rich, and I need some friendly competition! -Campbell Help the SWGFA by buying through Amazon. |

St. Augustine is not in the Space coast. Daytona is a bit of a toss-up. Some claim it is Space Coast. Others claim it is First Coast. I think Daytona is like the old buffer states from back in the cold war days. "Come to Daytona. It's like Czechoslovakia."

Palm Coast and Daytona both try to bill themselves as the fun coast, but as far as club naming I think they are closer to the first coast than the space coast. That way there is still an option open for a club to start or restart down in the cocoa melbourne area.

We've currently got a logo up for the First Coast Scavengers. Nothing's official, but it's a nice alternative to the Han Shot First Coast Star Wars Club. What do you Northerners think?
Also, I just saw that artist James Hance will be appearing at an Artwalk in May at Chamblin's. If you've never met the guy, or even if you have, stop in and check out his wares. Tell him Campbell sent you! -Campbell Help the SWGFA by buying through Amazon.

sabacc wrote:We figured we could add that for just a little while (along with the Sansweet thing). As you say it is nothing official, but we figured the Jawa clan is almost up to 4 members all by ourselves (5 with Gandma Jawa, and 7 when we bring our friends). We are almost a club without anyone else. It is really just a joke though. We can't wait for a REAL club in our area. (I do like the scavengers logo. I have some newer ones I made after I did this banner. They are cool.) sabacc wrote:Cool. I have not been to Chamblin's in several years. I see they now have 2 stores. Back in the day, Kay and I would spend DAYS in the place. It was like Narnia but with books. We got tons of old Heinlein and Pratchett there. That place was awesome. |

Wow this really got knocked on the back burner a while for me due to complications from my surgery but now that those are dealt with I can get back to work on this. I like the First Coast Scavengers idea, makes me think of the imperials on Tatooine finding droid parts. Right now I know of about 6 people here in Palm Coast interested, and I know there are more in the surrounding areas. Sometime this week I am going to see about creating a facebook page for it and going from there.

DarthKruhl wrote: That's more than enough people to get you started. A Facebook page is a great idea. Of course, when Campbell and I first started, there was no Facebook! Just message boards and email. I think you'll find it easier to communicate via Facebook initially. Good luck!

We did some looking in St. Augustine for a good free place to meet, and came up with nothing. I am sure there ARE good places, it is just that WE can't find them. 2 years ago we had at least 3, but today, nothing. There are places you can PAY to use anytime, and there is a good free place, but not on the weekends.

There are a few free places here in Palm Coast, but they are all outside and given the heat of late.... Other than that I need a general idea of how many people are interested in joining a fan club in this area.

Yes, there are outside places here as well. So we will have plenty of places to meet for the 6-8 weeks of the year when the outside is liveable in Florida.
As for numbers, count us in for 2 adults and 2 kids (soon). |

park pavilion , mall food court, large comic shop, or a house with a big driveway. I don't know what else there is.
