Non-Star Wars 3¾" Action Figures

Posts: 3205 Thu, May 12, 2011 10:46 AM Administrator Orlando System President Orlando	Tags : dexter, tron The 3¾" scale of action figures was made popular by Kenner Star Wars toys in the late 1970s but was actually around even earlier in Fisher-Price Adventure People and other lines. It remains a staple of the toy industry and has been used for everything from MAS*H, Platoon, and the recent TRON: Legacy figures to Marvel and DC comics figures. This week you can find both Thor and brand new Green Lantern movie figures on the pegs in toy aisles. I know that Justin (whendroidsfly) has built quite a collection of these so I'm curious about what he'll have to say about them. One line on the horizon is that of Dexter, the successful USA Network show about an arguably righteous serial killer. Here's hoping for clearance? If you're not picky about which version you get I bet you can count on it. I'd say they'll still be on shelves for a holiday video release then blown out in January. I wonder why many of the Thor figures, and a lot of Marvel figures, have started putting things like, "Marvel's" Frost Giant and "Marvel's" Odin. I know the obvious reason is because these names could be used by other lines. Posts: 979 Wed, Jul 6, 2011 11:59 PM Palm Bay	Wow Kyle has more marvel universe figures than me. I use the same strategy as Sharon with some of the new toy lines; wait for clearance. I really dont have enough interest , time , and money to collect every figure ever made in this scale. Some of these toys are so rediculous that you know nobody is going to buy it and the clearance is inevitable . If you ever happen to see the green lantern parallax , you gotta pick it up and laugh. Its a gross giant yellow plastic monster that opens its belly and grabs the green hero for only $21.99. No parent is going to buy that for their child. Now i want one. A portion of my collection will be called TOYS SO REDICULOUS, I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY MADE THEM. So far , the green laqntern figure Abin Sur is one of the few i will get from that line . I'm still waiting for a TRON: Legacy figure sale. I'd love to get the whole line in one swoop like you (Justin) did with Pirates of the Caribbean a year or two ago. Posts: 979 Sun, Aug 14, 2011 11:21 AM Palm Bay	There is a new 3.75" scale line for the Assasin's Creed video game. I've never seen the game but I think it is cool that they make a Leonardo Da Vinci figure. They sell these at Target and Toys R Us. Toys R Us is supposed to have an exclusive unhooded-Ezio (I didn't see any when I went to the TRU in Merritt Island). Then Gamestop has an exclusive ebony Ezio. Another cool line I hope to see on clearance. Target usually does a big clearance after Christmas each year.

I'd never even heard of it till you mentioned it. Anyone still seeing TRON action figures on the clearance shelves? I'll buy any figure you can find for $3.50 or less. Posts: 979 Thu, Sep 29, 2011 8:20 PM Palm Bay	So I found out a while ago that they are not going to make Da Vinci's flying machine in the small scale. It looks like the above photo is for something closer to 6" scale. Some hot toys for this season are from the final Thor waves. Many stores are full of first wave Thor figures that dont sell so these new figures become hard to find; Sif King Loki King Laufey From Captain America; Comic colored (green and yellow) Hydra troopers From Iron Man 2; Mandarin War Machine these final wave Iron Man figures have been found at a few Tuesday morning stores and at least one Ross. Figures like Thor's Sif and Iron Man's Mandarin were selling for $30 and up on ebay. It is nice to find them for $5.00 and keep them from ever getting on ebay. If anyone spots one, please buy it .

Namely, they were Doctor Doom and the Destroyer from Thor. Posts: 979 Mon, Oct 31, 2011 11:35 PM Palm Bay	There are a ton of movies coming in 2012 that have great potential for small scale figure lines. Here are some movies with confirmed toy lines; Avengers, Gi Joe Retaliation, Amazing Spiderman. Ghost Rider 2 arrives Feb 17 and so far there is no word of any kid's toys at all. I wonder if there is still time and the toy companies just havent shown what they are working on. Batman Dark Knight Rises opens July 20th - Larger scaled toys seem likely, I still hope small scale toys will be announced at Toy Fair next year. There is still no date for Ghostbusters 3 or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but I doubt they would get the smaller figure lines anyway. Same goes for Men In Black 3 (opening May 25th) and Total Recall ( opening Aug. 3) -- most likely not getting smaller figure lines. Then finally we have the new Hobbit movie in mid December. I would hope that the toys for this movie would remain 6" scale like the LOTR toys. Looks like another year that Hasbro will rule the action figure toy isle. Mattel could take up more space on the isles if they wanted to. They are making a ton of money on all of their other brands so its ok.

Posts: 979 Wed, Nov 2, 2011 10:24 PM Palm Bay	News came in this week that Warner renewed the licensing with Mattel so they can make any of their thousands of characters into toys. This would almost guarantee that there will be more DC universe classics in 6" scale and plenty of animated style figures to coincide with the many TV cartoon shows. I think news of a ; "Batman franchise take a page from Iron Man's marketing by having a Comic and Movie series of 3-3/4 figures that cover all three installments" is what I would anticipate most for 2012. I really have my doubts that Mattel can pull it off.
