Does anyone here have an interest at haivng a booth at a convention for the Orlando System? Or do we want our members to have to find their own way here?

That's an interesting idea. Dale, resident CR, what do you think about it?
If not a booth, we could at least work up some inexpensive handouts to leave on the tables that all conventions have (usually out near the ticket booths). Hmmmmm. |

I think we should just all show up together and maybe tailgate and hang out instead of getting a booth. Cheaper and we can still recruit new people and all. The flyers would be a good idea.

I advocate that we design a black and white image to print on an 8 x 11" sheet of colored paper (or a quarter of that size- it's easy to cut and multiplies your output by four). If that design is sent to me I can easily make plenty of copies at my workplace and our outlay of cash is nil.
If we go in that direction we need to figure out what needs to be written on the flyer. Obviously the web address, some art or logo, and a straightforward statement. Humor is great somewhere in the mix, but there needs to be something that conveys who we are, such as: The Orlando System a Central Florida Star Wars Fan Community

flyers will rock... I'm going to see if I can't get us some artwork for the flyers, I'll post it as soon as I hear back from my buddy.

Well Obviously we'd probably want the Orlando System logo we're using here. I'll try and work a couple things up as well just to have some additional ideas to work with. Any ideas on what wording on it besides the ezboard link. We are Orlando's only organized group aren't we? (well loosely at least)
and that we are for all fans Rebel or Imperial Also something about costuming I have no doubt there's talent in this group so who's the best with words. Who's got the Advertising experience......I know 'tweenst the sum the visual will be done. |

Well, the 501st has an Orlando chapter. I'm not sure about other groups. We're the only loosely affiliated FanForce group though.

I'd say, keep it simple. There's nothing worse than a flyer with too many words. Something like what Campbell wrote, and then maybe underneath a few words separated by bullets like:
Collecting * Costuming * Gaming * Events (just making stuff up here) And a blurb like "Something for everyone" or "whatever your interest, we have something for you", only less lame than that. I also like the idea of printing them 4-up and cutting them into cards; easier to tuck in a pocket so you can look up the website later. Do we need permission from the event coordinators to be handing these out? That is, is it like solicitation? I imagine if we're doing it one-on-one it would be no big deal, but if we're mass distributing it might upset someone. If the 501st has a booth, could we ask them to keep a stack at their table? |

I really like this idea. I've always thought about making our logo into a sticker of some type (bumper sticker?) That would be cool to hand out, too.

How about a simple group pic? Photoshopping everyone into it would be easiest I suppose. But if you are planning on cutitng a sheet into 4, perhaps its best to just have the logo on it, and some simple words saying that it is open to everyone. Something stating what we do would be good. We need more recognition too I think. Like, we should do a MegaCon breakfast or something like that next year. I've heard of other chapters doing so. We're Orlando, thats a pretty major city! We have an image to uphold! lol.
I would say to just have a simple statement and some of the things we do so we look welcoming (not that we aren't!), and just the site picture up top. From what I have seen on the 501st boards, they haven't said anything about a MegaCon booth, but then again I'm not official so they could have it all planned out in their memebrs only section. |

There will definitely be an open table or four near the ticket area of FX where any organization can put flyers. One thought- I'm not going till Sunday so we need to get these things made and given to someone going Friday or Saturday to maximize exposure. Also, as many of us as possible should carry around a few to pass out to interested parties. I'll wear an Orlando System shirt so I usually get a few people asking about it at this sort of thing.
Once we do have some sort of gathering and take a current group photo, the SW Insider Bantha Tracks has a place for it. Chances of getting into the magazine are fairly high. |

Mike, when I see you next bring a t-shirt and we'll make one up for you. I have the materials for one or two more.

Perhaps if someone has thick enough back hair they could get the OS logo "stencilled" ala 40-Year-Old Virgin.

Sabacc, you're going on sunday? If I don't make any of the other days, I will definantly be there Sunday. So just go up to the worst looking Jango Fett if there is more than one and smack me all like,"Yo holmz, waz poppin'?" Not sure how that will turn out, but hopefully I will recognize you and all will be well. I would assume that Dale is going on Friday with the 501st. But I haven't seen him post around here latly.
Another thing on the MegaCon thing. I'm stupid and the 501st is definantly doing stuff for it! There is a whole section of their forum for it! Did anyone ask about booth pricing for any of these conventions? As for the shirt, would you just need a white shirt and like $2? I know that the iron-on paper aint cheap. |

Anthony- you just want to see me bugging a bunch of Jangos before I get to you. I'll see you there on Sunday.
Quote: I'd say the ink and materials probably costs $3 or so to add to a t-shirt but at this time I'm not going to be making more than Mike's. The time is actually the big expense on these shirts, but if you'd like I'll post a micro-tutorial on how to make one for yourself. I haven't asked about a booth cost because I think we don't really have much to put on a table. If it were free, I suppose we could put a laptop with pictures of our costumes and collections. We need to get some pictures of recent activities and maybe a giveaway or raffle before I see us laying out a chunk of cash for this. 'Sides, I don't want to sit at a table for half a day during the convention. |
