I suspect most of you that have will begin to assault this thread with negative reviews of it. The Special is known for ultimate cheesiness and even the Maker views it with disdain. It's defenders, I number among them, appreciate the simpler-time TV, note the introductions of Boba Fett and Kashyyyk, and might even applaud the daring 20-minute opening with no words other than Wookiee groans. The SWHS also arguably introduced the world to VR sex (see Chewbacca's pop grind his teeth while fantasizing) and Carrie Fisher's stoned singing of the lost words from the SW Main Theme. With all these attributes, can you possibly not want to watch this thing on the 17th of November (Thursday) for its 27th Anniversary. Celebrate the Love, ya'll. -Campbell

The StarWars.com poll at this writing features the question, "How do you celebrate the anniversary of The Star Wars Holiday Special?" The rather undignified choices are: ~ Mercilessly tear the head off your younger brother`s stuffed bantha ~ Do a hilarious pantomime pretending you don`t know how to operate your stereo equipment ~ Balance precariously on a wooden rail in lieu of taking out the garbage ~ Dress in drag and cook up some steaks ~ Sing! Sing! Sing! ~ Try to forget I took my Lumps and balanced on the rail. -Campbell

I've not pulled it out yet, but I'll play it before Christmas. I actually remember the day my Dad got me the vinyl album of it at a drugstore from a cardboard display (1979?). One of the "entertaining" songs must be "What Can You Get a Wookiee For Christmas? (when he already has a comb)." I'd wager the other one is "R2-D2 We Wish You a Merry Christmas." I can totally appreciate that the rest of the album is no great shakes but it was such a part of my Christmas experience as a child that I love hearing it. Did you know a young Jon Bon Jovi appears on the album? His uncle worked for Meco who made most of the music. It's also nice that Anthony Daniels contributes lots of dialog and some cheesy singing to the project. And for those who don't have a copy and are wondering about that Wookiee gift... you give him "love and understanding, good will to man. Wrap it all up in a bright colored ribbon and you give it to him all over again." -Campbell Other than Christmas in the Stars and a compilation I made of Dean Martin and The Ventures, the only other holiday album I keep is A Christmas Together by John Denver and the Muppets. Believe it or not, there's a reference to my love of that album on the main ez-page here.

The scoop is that it'll be out as part of the Battle of Tatooine wave of figures. Can it really be far from now that we get a Bea Arthur figure? Maybe for the 30th Anniversary....

I rewound the exchange between her and "Ludlow" and "Thorpe" about twenty times. "Short memory, eh, Thorpe? SHORT MEMORY!" I don't remember the cartoon, but I do recall Mark Hamill looking like he was auditioning for the Gay Ice Capades. Also, you will find out several things you may have wanted to know about "Star Wars": How do Wookies entertain themselves? Why is Grandpa Wookie named "Itchy"? What is the warm, cuddly side of Han Solo? What would a love scene between Bea Arthur and Harvey Korman REALLY look like? What are the lyrics to the "Star Wars" theme? And what would they sound like if Princess Leia sang them? What would it be like for an aged, portly Art Carney to engage in a familiar "Honeymooners" routine with an Imperial Guard as his Ralphie-boy? But it stll leaves several questions: Why does "Lumpy" so resemble the kid from "Eight is Enough"? Why do the characters from "Star Wars" never change their clothes until "The Empire Strikes Back"? What was the story behind the "Short memory!" crack? Was there a romance between Bea Arthur and "Thorpe"? If so, what are the long-term consequences to the Cantina atmosphere? Was Bea Arthur just filling in that day for the big ugly fellow who ran the bar in "A New Hope"? Or does she own the place? Why do Imperial Guards adore "Jefferson Starship", and why do old Wookies have a fetish for African-American Humans? I hope Lucas creates another one of these. I would love to see Jar-Jar Binks exchange puns with Kelsey Grammar or Ray Romano.

I foresee me buying any toys relating to the Holiday Special and keeping the torch lit till it gets released. The thing is, if Lucasfilm would just release the darn thing it would a) make them some money, and b) end its cult status.
