Would you mind lending me one of your paperback copies to read? I have no plans of actually reading the one that's on the way if it is in fact what the description stated. It's funny, I've waited all these years to get this particular version of the book and never had plans to read it. I've always said that once I got it, I'd just get a cheap paperback to read the actual story. Unfortunately, any decent copy of this version of the book goes for upwards of $200 - $300 a piece. I've wanted this book on my shelf for the collection, but not enough to spend that kind of money on it. Now, I've purchased many of my older Star Wars books through www.alibris.com and I've gotten some great deals. Apparently, I left some type of automatic search going for this particular edition of this particular book, because the other day I got an email saying that they had found something I was looking for. Once I saw what the book title was, I almost didn't even bother to check, but boy am I glad I did. The book was $45 and according to the description, it was the original first edition hard cover book from March of '78 with 216 pages and a matching ISBN. The description also stated that the book and dust jacket were in "Like New" condition. Now, I'm not jumping for joy just yet, but if this book arrives and turns out to be the correct edition and it's even remotely close to fitting the quality description, I will be ecstatic. Stay tuned... Well, I struck gold today. After waiting about a week for it to arrive, I'm now the proud owner of an original hard cover first edition Splinter of the Mind's Eye novel that's in pristine condition. The book arrived packed extremely well and it was wrapped in one of those mylar covers that the libraries use which was an added bonus for me. I was so thrilled to open this book up and have it actually be what was stated in the description. I honestly thought I'd never own a copy of this version of the book, so I'm on cloud nine right now. The Sci-Fi Book Club version wasn't released until later on the same year. I've learned that when it comes to Lucas, just about everything has something to do with something else. Campbell, not sure if you have this version or not, but I was in the book store two weekends ago checking out the Star Wars aisle and I found a paperback copy of Splinter of the Mind's Eye that had a foreword by George Lucas. It was actually very neat as he talked about how other authors were taking the characters and creating their own stories and I'm guessing that it wasn't something recent.
