On disc 1, go to the language and sound set up section. Highlight the THX logo. Press 1138 on your remote and hit enter!

Has everybody viewed the "easter egg" on the e3 DVD? If not, here's the way to see the hidden clip of dancing Yoda.

Darth Palpatine | #1 | ||
|
When Palpatine reveals to Anakin that he is a Sith, Anakin says he's going to turn Palpy in. The next time we see him he's talking to Mace explaining how he's certain that Palpatine is the Sith. What was Anakin waiting for? I don't recall if the novel explains this; I seem to recall it being one of a series of events that was slightly altered in the book, but I'm not sure.

I think something got jumbled in the reshoots. Originally during the Mace-Palpatine scene, Anakin was there the entire time. In some shots on the DVD you can see Palpatine weilding Anakin's saber.

And what's with Anakin running through the Senate halls untill he reaches Palpatine's antechamber then very awkwardly slows to a brisk walk? I imagine he's trying to appear calmer than he really is but it looks odd.

Wow I didn't think the "pod/ship" was that large. I didn't look that big during the deleted scene did it?

"Goodbye, Chewbacca. Goodbye, Tarful."
Actually, something just occurs to me now that I've made the requisite Yoda joke. Is Yoda a hypocrite? "Mourn them do not. Miss them do not." - Yoda, ROTS "Goodbye, Chewbacca. Goodbye, Tarful. Miss you I will." - Yoda, ROTS Yoda says we should rejoice when a loved one transforms into the Force. So why did he bother trying to save Anakin and Obi-Wan in AOTC when he could have stopped Dooku right then and there and ended the war? Weird. |

Academy Awards | #9 | ||

Anyone else think it's a disgrace that the only nomination ROTS gets is for best makeup ??? I mean come on !
At least it should have a nod for special effects, but you could add sound mixing or sound editing.. art direction..something. Special effects nominations went to King Kong (which I agree with), War of the Worlds (it had decent effects.. but better than ROTS?????), and Narnia (which I thought had good effects but some really bad ones too). In Narnia - the Lion looked decent, but some of those other creatures... crappy.... and that "big" battle scene.. some fakey looking stuff there. I don't know if it would win any of these but at least a nomination !! I guess I will root for King Kong .. if the visual department.. Kong looked great Does Hollywood really hate Lucas that much ? I don't believe any of the prequels won any Academy Awards.. but at least they had nominations. |

Re: Academy Awards | #10 | ||

Given the other nominations I do think it's unfair that RotS was not up for SPFX. But who said the Oscars were about fairness? Perhaps the Academy is a little confused with how to deal with a movie that is so digital. I mean, the lines between animated features and shows like RotS are more and more blurred.

Well, I think the Academy looks for innovation and perhaps they didn't see anything particularly innovating about ROTS. It's easy to point at Kong because the big ape was truly innovative. WotW . . . well, I'm not sure what was so special about that. I didn't see the other nominated film. At any rate, whether or not ROTS was nominated is moot, 'cause Kong deserved (and got) the win.

Any stories of peeps disgruntled due to Lucas's digital video movie signalling the end of the age of "film"?

Re: Academy Awards | #13 | ||

I haven't heard any stories of the academy holding a grudge. But I would not doubt it. Lucas wanted to distant himself with the whole hollywood scene and pretty much said, screw it, I can do what I want without the interference of some big wigs in hollywood. Regardless of little statues. The Epic that is Star Wars means a heck of alot more to people than the mvoies that did win.
Just my opinion though Walt If you will not fight, then you will meet your destiny.

Re: Academy Awards | #14 | ||

Agreed about Lucas's rejection of Hollywood. It was a significant part of why he moved his base to Northern California. He even left the Directors Guild of America when Empire was made because they fined him for putting Kershner's name at the end of the picture. Kershner supported staying consistant with Star Wars, and interestingly, the DGA didn't have any issue with Lucas not being listed as director before Star Wars.
Funnily enough, the only real anger I've seen expressed over the demise of film was in the first promotional web-documentary made for AotC. Perhaps part of the reason is that such an effort is still made to make digital look like it is film. -Campbell |

Sin City was all digital and it looked great. I thought Once Upon a Time in Mexico look good as well. I know digital doesn't quite match the pixel count of analogue film yet, but it's getting there and I wager most people don't have a discerning enough eye to really tell the difference. Plus, digital looks the same Day 1 and Day 101 while film degrades muchly. Plus when it comes to FX laden movies, digital is preferable simply to eliminate generation loss as with typical film treatments. Of course, nowadays, most FX sequences are converted to digital and then back to film anyway to try to eliminate that problem.
Bottom line: in 10 - 15 years, you'll have to go to an art house theater to actually watch a film. Everything else will be a bunch of ones and zeros. |

Quote: I think, given the state and foreseeable future of home theater, that going to a moviehouse at all, might be unusual in 10-15 years. It could go the other way, but looking at the shortening time from theatrical to home video releases, I don't think studios will continue to do two marketing campaigns. I imagine cinemas to become smaller, with far less screens and be attended more like arthouses are now than like the multi-plexes that are starting to do less stellar business. -Campbell |

You ignore the people's need to be communal. People like wasting time on their days off and there's nothing quite as cheap and potentially thrilling than seeing a movie with some friends. I don't think theaters are going anywhere. People keep proclaiming the death of movies, but they're making more than ever. The studios make a killing in the theaters and then again on DVD. If TV didn't kill movies, nothing will.

Re: cinema | #19 | ||

Maybe they'll go back to being nicer theaters with bigger screens. I won't miss being scrunched in one theater and hearing the sound from the one next door but there's nothing quite like seeing a big action movie on a large screen with real popcorn.... Some movies just aren't the same at home, no matter how nice the home system. Plus as Mike said, the communal experience is a huge part of the enjoyment.

Re: cinema | #20 | ||

There are a lot of changes happening to movies all around. The Indie Film channel just made a deal to release movies online the same time they are released in the theater. Now it doesn't have too much of an effect because indie films usually just premiere in LA and NYC. But Hollywood is already not to happy that they are doing that.
I hope that the theater companies would go retro. Where they aren't concerned with how many screens they can fit in one theater and you have listen to two different movies on each side of you. They should go with less screens but make it where you will enjoy going to the movies. It is so expensive anyway, they should use that money to make movie going a fun experience and worry about quality not quantity. JMO. Walt |
