I kept expecting to see a scene like that. It's interesting how un-in-touch Lucas can be to think we don't have time for (or want to see) those scenes yet we can sit through endless fight scenes and dull dialogue. Don't get me wrong; I am excited by the fight scenes as the next person, but I'd rather see 3PO get his face than hear long stories that pass for character development.

I really hope that these scenes are finished and end up on a future DVD release. Ideally remixed into the movie, but at least as deleted scenes.

And that's perfectly fine with me. Now it's just a matter of when. I suspect it might happen once the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD war is over by victory, or by a new format.

Happy 6th Birthday, AotC. It came out this day in 2002.

Sure doesn't seem like it's 6 years old already.

I think because I was anxious for the Saga to be completed, it actually seems like more than six years to me. A lot of things have changed in my life since it
came out, so when I look back to that time, it's a clear, but far away, memory.
For me, the movie has aged well, and I was excited to see select scenes a few days ago, but from the people I speak to AotC seems to have taken on "worst Episode" status. Until GL adds some Ewoks into it, it'll never fall under that heading for me. |

Does anyone know which Jedi's voice was used for the line "Anakin, Anakin! " right after he starts to slaughter the tusken raiders?

I believe that should be Qui-Gon just as you hear his voice trail off when Mace intrudes upon Yoda's meditation.

That's cool. I thought it sounded like Qui-Gon. So I guess that means spirit Qui-Gon knows Anakin is giving into hate that could lead to the Dark side so
he tries calling out to him . Does that sound right?

Yes, and it foreshadows that Qui-Gon somehow lingers in the Force, as Yoda revealed at the end of the RotS. And btw, it definitely is Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon
during that attack. Powerful scene with a powerful score. I love listening to that cut and waiting for Anakin's breaking point.

I've still not watched this this month, but I'm going to do so in the next couple of days- AotC is the SWGFA's Episode of the Month!

Funny you should mention this. I had planned on watching it last night, but we're having company this weekend and I have to get my collection put away.
Tonight is the night! Can't wait to watch me some "Attack of the Clones"!

Just as planned, I sat down for a viewing of Episode II last night. It's not very often that I am not interrupted by someone or something during a movie,
but I was able to watch this from the opening crawl to the end credits without having to hit the pause button once. As I was watching the film, I realized that
this is probably my least watched Star Wars movie of all six films. I don't know why really, that's just how it's played out over the years. I
guess you could say that I have the most to learn from Episode II more than the other five because of this. I love the movie and I could never grow tired of
watching it and I feel like I need to watch it again very soon. Like most of you, the more I watch these movies, the more I force myself to not watch the main
actors. I'm looking for things I've never seen before or perhaps things that I've seen, but didn't understand. Having spent two solid days with
Leeanna Walsman last year and listening to her stories about filming, I particularly enjoyed her scenes.
I am never one to complain or criticize any of the Star Wars films, but there was one thing that slightly bothered me last night. When Anakin returns with his deceased mother and he and Padme are alone in the shop, Anakin is visably shaken and distraught given what has just happened, understandly so. Padme sees this and asks him, "what's wrong?" Now, all I could think of was what I would have said to her had I been in Anakin's shoes. What's wrong? Well, my mother just died in my arms, but other than that, everything is peachy keen, thanks for asking. What do you say we go take an oil bath, Padme? Like I said, not complaining, just a line that I would have switched up a bit. Another note worthy part of the film was when Dooku first met Obi-Wan on Geonosis. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that Dooku was telling him the truth. His performance was superb. I have to wonder what Obi-Wan would have thought had he not heard the conversation between the Techno Union, Trade Federation, InterGalactic Banking Clan and Dooku. Would he have sensed the lies he was being fed? Up until then, Dooku seemed to have been flying under the radar enough to make Mace Windu utter the phrase, "It's not in his character." when Dooku was accused of being an assassin. Upon viewing this last night, I'm interested in doing some research on the Count. I've been reading more OT period books lately, but perhaps I'll go back and read Rogue Shadow and then Attack of the Clones next. Administrator - RebelScum.com, Wedge Collection Engine & The Registry

Rogue Shadow? You mean the ship that made the FU run in under 400 pages?
Whether you mean this or not, I recommend Dark Rendezvous. That's the Yoda book that really focuses on Dooku's motivations. Glad you watched February's movie of the month. This being the final day of the month, chances are you are the only one. I promise to revisit it in the next week. Good point about Padme's line. While the Padme/Anakin love affair takes tons of criticism, I've never heard anyone notice how absurd that particular line comes out. I also look forward to re-watching the Dooku/Obi-Wan scene. I often put an estranged grandfather/grandson template over their relationship and like how Dooku finesses the truth. Must run in the "family." |

Oi I must been typing too early in the morn but I posted some thoughts on you're observations Chris in the last Movie I watched thread in the general
movies & tv discussion thread. I copied here and deleted most of the other.
I haven't posted this previously but I did watch AotC this past week while I was working on some projects. It didn't get my full attention but I went back chapters if I left the room to grab something. I also did watch PM the last of Jan. In response to Chris re: the Shop scene with Anakin & Padme I kinda take it that Padme senses there is something more to Anakin's agitation than just the circumstances of his mother dying. From the dialogue and the way he killed the tuskens he only blamed himself and the tuskens for her death. He may have been angry the Lars hadn't made more effort but did not blame them. It is one of the moments that occurs where you kinda feel you need the force to understand The Makers feelings in the scene or just wish he'd taken a few seconds more to set up the scene better. To the Scene with Dooku and Obi-Wan, I actually stopped and had paid very close attention to this (actually to most of Dooku's Scenes). I believe more and more Dooku has never sided with anyone and is only playing for who's gonna get him the most. I think he was telling Obi-Wan the truth, that he did want Obi to help him overthrow the emporer knowing full well he could never do it himself. Who better to gain allegiance with than the former padawan of the Rebelious Jedi and his own former padawan (and how much of Qui-Gon's rebel attitude did he get from Dooku, one of the lost Jedi?) It only took that short interaction for Dooku to understand he could probably not sway Obi-Wan. Dooku's motivation had nothing to do with becoming the Sith Lord and to the last he believed he could undermine the emporer. He still seems to hold on to some of the Jedi beliefs of behavior (or this could be just his aristocratic upbringing) and still has significant respect for many Jedi but sees himself as far more superior. The emporer doesn't just see them as inferior but worthless and a hindrance. Unfortunately for Dooku everyone recognizes his duplicity. There's so much to Dooku I could say but it would be an essay and I not up for that now. Oh and I'd have to reread Dark Rendesvous again, it was a great book, but I'm working only from the films, I still am wary of much the EU. My deal with AotC is how did a bumbling Gungan with no political background suddenly become the sole representative of Naboo and be able to make significant desicions and senate recommendations without counsel. What were they Thinking? Even Padme seemed to be in freguent if not continous contact with the Queen as to her motivations in the senate.
