I can't do it. I just can't listen to that voice just vomiting bile for 10 minutes, let alone 70. In the first two minutes I heard him slur "The
Frantomenace" half a dozen times. My blood pressure's high enough. I wouldn't mind reading some bullet points but there's no way I'm
sitting in that professor's class.

Yeah, no interest in this type of thing. A movie review doesn't need to include information about your personal life, nor does it need to include such fowl
language. Someone posted about this in the Autograph section on Rebelscum and I watched about a minute of it before I had enough.

don't think his points through it's easy to get caught up. This guy would be excellent for preaching to a mob.
In the end I feel like I just watched an episode of Jerry Springer. And frankly, I probably would watch an episode of Jerry Springer if it focussed on Star Wars, so I guess this wasn't more a waste of my time than usual. -Campbell

Waited until the last possible moment to watch the movie of the month, The Phantom Menace. Courtney and I watched it today before I dropped her off at the airport.
I really do love this movie.

kyzman wrote: It's the best review ever. It is DEAD on. The guy does some absolutely awesome reviews (his Trek ones may be even better, especially Generations), but his is right about The Phantom Menace. As time has passed, I think it easy to say that the film really does... suck. It's NOT good. It all began at the midnight premier at Disney in 1999 when everyone walking out wasn't, you know, talking about it. Oddly, my sister, who is 28 years old, had never see a Star Wars film and really wanted to. I told her I would watch them with her (rare that we do anything together), and we started with Menace. At about the 10 minute mark, she commented, "I have no idea what's going on." And here I am, a super fan, and I *STILL* have no clue what Jar Jar says from time to time. That is not good. The Neimoidians? Half the time they are impossible to understand. The film boggles the mind. She DID like Clones a tad better and really liked Sith and Star Wars. We have not gotten to Empire and Jedi yet. Still, the link you posted is funny as hell, and any true fan should get a huge kick out of it. Looking at the comments on YouTube, it seems some people don't get it, but most do. You know he struck gold when he brings up how Qui-Gon wants to "stow away aboard seperate ships." Um, WHY? Why even have that line of dialogue that serves no purpose and makes no sense? Anyway, great stuff. I cannot wait for his Clones review. I'd also ask everyone to check out his Trek movie reviews. Funny, funny stuff.
THIS IS NOT AN EXIT.

I thought the 70 minutes of bile review had some worthwhile comments, but as a whole it's a mess. It's like listening to some political commentator that says a reasonable thing here and there but mires it in so much random opinion that it's not worth sifting. I generally found the review to be a waste of time but if someone wrote down all the real arguments that the reviewer brought up I'd be interested in discussing them. For example, I'm happy to debate whether it was a good idea for Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan to split up when sneaking on the TF's warships, but I don't want to hear that bizarre "comedian's" voice or the little vignettes about rape and filth ever again.

I guess I don't like when people bash Star Wars and I know they have there opinion but I just don't like it .I always say if you don't like it don't watch it and leave the ones that like it alone. I think people that bash it just don't understand Star Wars.

For my part, I'm fine with people taking or leaving parts of the Saga that they like and dislike. I do it myself and Campbell Canon overrides Lucas canon for me every time. I just hate when people spend so much time on things they dislike. I mean, if I spent an hour telling you how much I don't like anchovies anyone would think I went on for 59 minutes too long. You don't like something, change the channel- walk away- move along, move along.

Meh. I still think it's funny. Just b/c I love SW doesn't mean I need to love everything about it or every movie or show. For example, I can't stomach the new cartoons either. As for people spending so much time on talking about what they don't like, it is b/c they are passionate about the lore of the franchise and absolutely dislike that to them, it was ruined. We spend just as much time (and much more) talking about what we love about the movies. Comedians have built very successful careers around negative jokes - Lewis Black and Dennis Leary come to mind. Just think about Leno's monologue - is there anything positive that is included in his jokes - which is what this review is - a long narrative joke.
In any event, this guy's review of Avatar was pretty funny too. And yes, I liked that review as well and I even love that movie. BTW - I have an idea for the next SW trilogy and it is centered around galactic unemployment caused by the downfall of the empire as the troops and empire weapons builders have nowhere to work now. Sounds just about as exciting as a movie about the galactic government, eh? Keep on smiling. |

kyzman wrote:Leno is one of the least funny comics on TV. You're justifying this review by comparing it to Leno's monologues? I'd just as soon say, "This review is at least as good as 70 minutes of Jerry Springer." Springer's Final Thought: Not everybody likes the same things. That's okay. Some people on here think Family Guy Star Wars humor goes too far. Some people think it's the best thing since the Empire Struck Back. Whatever works. I just don't see much point in rants that go on for more than a couple of minutes. If you don't like the Phantom Menace, stop talking about it. It's been 11 years, folks. Why anybody would continue to complain about a movie for more than a decade is beyond me. Watch and think about stuff that interests you, not the stuff you hate. -Campbell

Did anyone attend the Ep. I screening at Celebration V? I had intended to go in hopes of seeing the "new" digital Yoda, but I couldn't get away. I also had heard rumors that it was going to be the version screened at earlier Celebrations, so I wasn't too disappointed. Assuming that was the case I guess we'll just have to wait to see it on next year's Blu-Ray.
The Yoda puppet, as designed for The Phantom Menace, is one of my least favorite things about the Prequels. -Campbell

Yeah, I've yet to hear, "Don't defile my Phantom Menace! Yoda was meant to be a puppet and his Episode I weird-shaped head is the only way he should look."
I have to admit, I'm glad that the prevailing thought out of Lucasfilm currently is that the Yoda from Empire is the Yoda to emulate. They've always claimed they won't paste a digital Yoda over Frank Oz's OT performance. -Campbell
