Posts: 6068 Wed, Jun 21, 2006 4:54 AM Consul - Orlando System Baron Admin	Tags : None I'm not a huge LEGO collector, but I have liked their products all my life. I have all of my LEGOs from childhood, and was excited when Star Wars became their first license. I have most of the mini vehicles and maybe half a dozen other sets and have dreamt of huge things like the original Star Destroyer and the Death Star. However, last night on CNN I heard part of a story about LEGO massively scaling back production and even leaving Denmark for the Czech Republic. I can't seem to find anything online about this so I'm asking here. Does anyone know about this news and how it will affect the SW license?

Posts: 796 Wed, Jun 21, 2006 5:02 PM *Gainesville*	I saw something, I think on Headline News, that they were scaling back but didn't hear specifics. I would think that SW would be one of their better selling lines but that's just a guess on my part.

(I've had it in my storage because he didn't have space and is now never getting it back hmmph) Unfortunately I knew long ago I could never keep up collecting the SW line. Lego is keeping their Denmark HQ and plant but are cutting approx. 300 employees. The US plant is closing completely and the very few other locations will be cutting employees.

My mother, like most parents eventually must, got rid of almost all my toys from childhood. She kept two sorts of things because she knew they were important- Star Wars stuff and LEGO. Thanks, Mom.

Posts: 6068 Tue, Mar 13, 2007 3:12 AM Consul - Orlando System Baron Admin	Anyone buy any LEGO stuff lately? I bought some Eggo waffles that are shaped like LEGOs recently. Finally the ad-wizards got this match-made-in-marketing-heaven together. I love the idea, but I truly bought them because there was LEGO Star Wars II art on the outside and cheat codes on the inside. The LEGO pieces I'm interested in right now are the Clone 4-pack (only $10) and General Grievous's fighter. Good looking.

I liked it, but I could not spend $50 for five or so figures re-packed in an acrylic box. They also had a bundle of old sets (circa 2003) of the mini-ships that they called Exclusive.

Posts: 6068 Tue, Oct 9, 2007 10:38 PM Consul - Orlando System Baron Admin	I have lots of the small sets, but nothing too big. I was coveting the TRU exclusive Republic Cruiser ($100) the other day. I can't spend that much on such a thing, but it is a thing of beauty. The one thing I've noticed about almost every LEGO set is that they look better out of the box than the do in the pictures. They've also got more detail and action features than I ever expect. Another one I probably won't buy, but that is fantastic, is the upcoming AT-AT. Sweeeeeeeet!

It features 7 or 8 sets assembled including the beautiful $500 Millenium Falcon and the new walking AT-AT. I'm not really close to buying anything there, but I did covet the Hoth Rebel Base playset. It's a pricey-but-manageable $50. The only thing I don't like about it is that the snowspeeder is white, not grey. They also have some neat small keychains of a mini-Falcon, mini-Y-Wing, and mini TIE Advanced.

I really don't need to be spending LEGO money but sets like Flight to Peru, Shanghai Chase, and Fight on the Flying Wing are really cool! If you haven't seen them, check them out.

There were 8 of us there together and we had a lot of fun checking out all the creative displays. Now I am more determined to hunt for cheap Legos at yardsales. I don't think I will be buying new sets from the store. My nephews have a few . Yesterday they left a lego-man Obiwan and Anikin at my house by mistake . I will hold onto them until they realize they are lost.

Posts: 6068 Wed, Jan 28, 2009 10:28 PM Consul - Orlando System Baron Admin	Ha, I know why it's not supposed to happen, but I really wish you could buy most of the LEGO characters without buying the sets. It's a great strategy for LEGO, especially since they started making licensed characters a decade ago. Most sets come with exclusive figures and that makes them more enticing to kids and collectors. It is nice to see the little $10 sets that include key popular characters like the Indy Last Crusade with Indy, Dr. Jones, and a couple of motorcycles, one with a German soldier. Soon I look forward to buying the new Clone set with 4 CW Clones.
