We could talk anything Star Trek related here, or, for those of you who think it would be blasphemy to discuss Trek on a STAR WARS board, then maybe we could tell Star Trek jokes here or otherwise bash the franchise. I'll start. Question: What does a new born baby have in common with a trekkie? Answer: They're both virgins. Posts: 400 Sun, Aug 6, 2006 8:21 PM Casselberry	I'm a fan of Star Trek. ...I was of course portraying the evil Kirk of Episode 5 (Season 1) "The Enemy Within". For you non-trekkies, that's where a transporter malfunction causes Captain Kirk to split into his "good" and "evil" selves. I will always remember that the viewer discovers this by seeing some psychotic, homicidal poodle inside a cardboard box. I grok Spock.

I seem to recall Sharon and Audrey having a lot of love for ST. Me, I enjoy watching most all of the shows (except the original) but like ST:NG the best.

Posts: 400 Mon, Aug 7, 2006 8:26 AM Casselberry	I would participate in a Heinlein thread too, but I haven't gotten around to starting one to see who's a cultivated reader out there. And remember sci-fi forefather A.E. Van Vogt, who gave us 'Mission to the Stars' that Walter claims is FILLED with stuff that inspired major parts of Lucas's Star Wars universe. Coincidentally, I JUST heard that this October will see THE LARGEST STAR TREK AUCTION EVER. Including Uhura's original TV show miniskirt. I think there will also be lots of ST: NG stuff sold. I similarly like all Star Trek, but I like Next Generation the best. It took a while to win me over from the original 60s TV series, which I think is fantastic. Talk about costumes! And I really find the original Star Trek to be VERY much like Shakespearean drama, or old time theater, BUT with the obvious science fiction (and often, bizarre comedy) twist. Incidentally, I first saw that phrase "I grok Spock" on a T-shirt worn by Dana Carvey in a hilarious SNL skit. Shatner was the host. He got frustrated during a speech to a Trekkie convention and started insulting the crowd. His agent pulled him aside and basically said "bad career move." So, Shatner got back up on the podium and said he'd been portraying his "Evil Self" from the specific episode I mentioned above. I don't think Carvey had any lines at all, so it was neat to see such attention to detail in an SNL bit. Grok is a term that comes from Robert Heinlein's famous novel Stranger in a Strange Land, which is a very excellent book.

I LOVE trash-talking infighting between oldschool trekkies and haters of the original 60s show. "Kirk would never sing to children in a crisis." hehe

First we got Shatner intrigued while trying on women's shoes, now he's the doltish Captain Shat that bumps his jet's controls while trying to wave to us. I'd choose Patrick Stewart as Sterling in Jeffrey anyday.

Posts: 1278 Wed, Sep 13, 2006 11:57 AM *St. Charles, MO*	To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Trek, Paramount went back to the archives and created hi-def versions of the classic series, striking a new film transfer, rerecording the music, and even updating the visual effects. The series is supposed to be shown in syndication on the local affiliate that normally airs syndicated Star Trek. To see the trailer click here. NOTE: Paramount is not pulling the old DVDs off the shelves or otherwise restricting access to the unaltered versions of the series.

Our local CW affiliate, WKCF channel 18, lists "Balance of Terror" airing this Saturday at 2:30pm (3pm if you have their HD channel). That's supposed to be the first episode of this new updated series, so I imagine that they are indeed carrying it. I'm curious, so I may have to set my VCR for this one.

Darn. I think my missing it essentially means I'm going to wait another 40 years to earnestly try to get into the original series.

I saw part of one recently that seemed to have vibrant colors... maybe it was remastered and I forgot to pay close attention to it. The colors seem more vibrant and the ship looked cleaner in space. Think some phaser sounds were better. Not really THAT different... or I should have paid more attention to it...

Not only did this episode star Peg Bundy, Booger, Magnum PI, and Murphy Brown, but it also had Neelix, Odo, and Captain Kirk. Considering how many times some of these guys work together it's making the original cast movies seem more and more realistic. (I was always distracted by the need to keep a geriatric team [mostly] together in movies 1-6.)
