Should George Lucas make episode 7? |
Lead | ||
|
George Lucas (from what I have been told and read) has filled out papers for the production of episode 7. Just in case he decides to make it. Problem is George Lucase might be to old. Please choose one of the following on what you think he should do.

I don't think she should RETIRE, but Star Wars is done, complete. Return of the Jedi was it; the good guys one, the bad guys lost, and journey was over. While I have read my share of the novels and comics, played the games, etc., they are just there to be there. Not true Star Wars by any stretch. Star Wars consists of the six films, nothing more. We have a beginning, middle, and end. Done, done, and done.
So, no, there should be no Episode VII, but he should also not retire. Brandon THIS IS NOT AN EXIT.

I just realized that I missed a word in there. It should have read, "...the journey was over." Sigh.

In part I agree the sith were finished off at Return Of The Jedi, but if you have read the books that tell the story after episode VI then you would know that Luke, Leia, Han, and the others have many adventures. In episode 7 Luke turns to the Dark Side to spy on the Empire. After the second Death Star was destroyed the Empire was mostly finished. The Rebel Alliance became the New Republic and Luke Skywalker started a new jedi academy. But this academy soon has problems. Believe me my friend, I have read some of the books. I think GL could make it but on the other hand, like you said the story is pretty much done. But he has so much more to do. That is why I agree with you and disagree at the same time. Thanks for your thoughts.
May The Force Be With You. Always. |

I agree with Brandon. To me, the books are rubbish. I used to read them, but they are just like every other sci-fi franchise that has used an artist's interpretation to further a 'what-if' scenario, should the story continue, etc. Lucas isn't married to any of the ideas and whatever is printed isn't part of the actual story - it's just another fanboy imagining how things would play out post film.
Star Wars is dead, burried, packaged, repackaged, repackaged again and will continue to be dug out of its grave to put a fresh coat of glaze on it to repackage yet again. If an episode 7 were to be done, I would shudder to think how crappy it would be made and then truly ruin any prior memory of how great this franchise once was. Lucas played it safe by doing prequels, since he had little chance of ruining the existing characters that we grew up loving. Instead of us hating Han Solo, we were supplied Anakin Skywalker to rag on for the next 20 years. |

In terms of what "happens" after Return of the Jedi, trust me, I do know. Like I said, I've READ the books, comics, etc. In fact, Dark Empire is still, to this day, one of my favorite comics. Adding to that, Tales of the Jedi: Redemption is my favorite non-film Star Wars story out there. It's outstanding. Even so, none of them are an actual part of the Star Wars universe. When the end credits come up in Return of the Jedi, the story is OVER.
There was no ridiculous (and stupid) Grand Admiral Thrawn, no cloning of the Emperor, Luke did not turn to the Dark Side, Han did not have a long-lost brother (Thraken Sal-Solo if I remember correctly), there were no Children of the Jedi or a Planet of Twilight. Chewbacca did not die. A Death Star laser that they called the Darksaber was never built, etc. So, again, no, there should be no third trilogy. I would be willing to bet that ****IF**** there was another trilogy, Lucas would not use any of the characters we "know and love." He'd set it far after Return of the Jedi. Or, as Kyle says, and he is completely right, even if he did use some of the characters, he is not obligated to use any of the crap that is out there now. Thankfully, the three new films have destroyed much of the "expanded universe," and a new trilogy would only serve to finish it off. Brandon THIS IS NOT AN EXIT.

First, how do you quote replies? Second, Thrawn did rawk. After all, he could determine how a particular battle would play out by studying decaying Wookiee fecal matter.

Quoting on the board is a little more effort than other post boards. When you reply, you have 7 boxes to the left of the reply box. You have to hit the quote button and then copy/paste the line that you were looking to put in the quote. A little primative, but it works. Thrawn would have programmed it better!

Perhaps the story to Darth Vader ended. But episode 7 would continue Luke's story. The emperor was not killed in episode 6. He disigned a program where he cloned himself. Ok. When Darth Vader killed the emperor, the Empire had transfered his thoughts and conscience to another clone of himself. That is why I think George Lucas should make it. To continue Luke's story and tell what happens to the Empire and the New Republic.

That's the point Kyle and I are trying to make. The Emperor, sadly, *did* die in Return of the Jedi. All of the comics and books and games you are referring to did not "really" happen in the Star Wars universe. It's no different than if I wrote a short story about how Darth Vader was cloned into a midget body and went around giving people kisses under their armpits. Would that now have happened after Return of the Jedi?
To George Lucas, who, like it or not, IS Star Wars, the story is over, done, complete as of Return of the Jedi. Trust me, if, god forbid, there was an Episode VII, it would completely discount all the books and comics that are out now, just like the prequel trilogy discounted much of it. Brandon THIS IS NOT AN EXIT.

Alright then. Now I see. Luke's story is not done. But your right. George Lucas did finish the story in episode 6. So now I agree with you. Good point.

Quote: Kyle, you and I have always seen these boards a little differently than one another. I think the quoting here is as easy as anywhere. Maybe some people don't have the exPost defaulted, but those buttons work like a charm for me. However, on the negative side, it doesn't work nearly as easily on IE7. While I am very happy with the new Internet Explorer, I have to "temporarily allow" the use of those buttons for each screen. It works, but it's more effort. Also, I too am glad the movies are over. I like the plethora of EU product because I can pick and choose what I want to read up on or take in and apply it however I want to while watching the movies. I've seen no credible quotes that Lucas has outlined future episodes, and quite the opposite, I've seen him say that the future of live action Star Wars is in episodic television programming. |
