I see both your points, but we would have paid for these in 2003 as well (that's a year no other SW movie DVDs came out). He's always know he could bring in money by doing this.

And, in case you don't take my meaning, this is the latest in a long history of Lucas revising history or changing his mind. While I believe he will not make Eps 7-9 it's not because he says he won't. In the early 80s he was going to make at least 9 episodes, in the early 90s he was done making SW movies, in the mid 90s he said he would make Prequels but not direct them, and since the turn of the century he's said that the Saga is all the story of Darth Vader.
As a matter of fact, in the SW compendium of the 3 OT novels that came out in conjunction with the 2004 DVDs, Lucas said that SW was always intended to be six movies! Liar! These are not just times he's changed his mind. Lucas attempts to change history to fit his wants.

You know I love his work, I'm one of the biggest fans. I just recognize Lucas's personality and know to take anything he promises with a grain of salt.
Most importantly, SW is bigger than one man and would not be what it is without the huge amounts of creativity from a huge number of people.
