I'm not allergic, but I do have an unpleasant reaction to secondhand smoke. Interesting, this looks like the poll with the most responses.

I get really bad headaches if I have prolonged exposure to cigarette smoke. And yet, I smoke. Weird, huh?

I enjoy a nice cigar every on occasion after a nice round of golf, with some drinks. Not a big fan of cigarettes though.

I really wanted to like cigars. Not smoking them myself, just being in a room with them. They seem so elegant. Alas, I have the same reaction to them as to incense or anything with pungent scent... nausea.

I'm the same way, I feel similar about any strong odors, including most perfumes and some soaps. I like the idea of candles, but even then I'm aware of the smoke they put off. Most of this I've felt most of my life, but some of it is probably an aversion to extra dust in the house.

I love that most public indoor places do not allow smoking. I can go lots of places I could never visit before, now that they are smoke-free. I grew up with two smoking parents, and was greatly relieved when that Dad stopped and Mom decided to limit her smoking to the outdoors.

Having a Dad who smoked 3 pcks a day made it easy for me. I started like a pro sadly. I don't get the fuss smokers make about having to go outside in public though. I have no problem sitting through a meal and waiting until I have the opportunity. I'm actually glad it's not allowed in public besides bars and clubs. Though, obviously I will sneak out through the course of a day.
But the day will come.... |

This comment isn't directed at anyone in this thread, but lately I've noticed that many a smoker views the world as their private landfill. I can't recall how many times I'll be driving behind someone at night and then see the familar orange glow of ash as it hits the pavement behind the car in front of me. I would never begrudge anyone their right to smoke, but since when did it become okay to litter? Especially with still-lit cigarettes that could easily start a brush fire (and have on many occasions).
But then, it's not just smokers who trash the place. The waterway at Universal is constantly decorated with soda bottles and other garbage even though the bordering walkways have trash cans conveniently spaced for their use. Nobody wants to live in Dumpsville yet it seems everyone doesn't care enough to clean up after themselves. Gah! |

Ditto to the "no littering" comment! I'm more bothered by that than by the smoke, as I can always move if the smoke bothers me. But flower gardens, walkways, etc. filled with cigarette butts make me sad. Plus I read somewhere that when they autopsy beached whales and dolphins, they invariably find cigarette butts in their digestive tracks. Don't know if that leads to their deaths but it can't be good for them. You've hit my soap box; the world is not a gargage can and other people shouldn't have to clean up after you. If you're not in your own home, then throw stuff away in a proper receptacle!
Okay I'm breathing again. Thanks for letting me vent! |

Soapbox, did somebody bring a soapbox? Yes!
On the topic of littering: When I walk around my neighborhood I take down most of those annoying little paper signs stuck on small metal posts by the side of the road. For years I've torn down advertising taped paper off of lightpoles, but these new signs are a new obnoxiousness. I'm not saying that a garage sale or a missing dog or person sign has to go, but when a store or independant retailer puts up a sign on public property with and just leaves it there it's an eyesore that will eventually melt in the weather and become litter. Litter is bad enough, but monetary gain from such is inexcusable. |
