I'm not completely sure about the story except it takes place during the clone wars and has something to do with rescuing Jaba the Hutt's son.
Basically this is an animated theatrical movie leading into the upcoming clone wars animated regular series on cartoon network. Here's a link to info on
the official site.

It comes out on August 15th and, like the series, takes place between Episodes II and III. More specifically, it will generally take place between the events
of the old Tartakovsky Clone Wars from a few years back. Basically, those cartoons covered the beginning of the Clone Wars and the events just before Revenge
of the Sith. After the theatrical movie, this new version will feature full episodes taking place during the Clone Wars. Also, while it's three-dimensional
like digital animation often is, the movie is not in 3-D*.
Here's the established thread for the Clone Wars TV series. * = Not in 3-D for now. Lucas intends to release the Saga in 3-D eventually, but the cinema infrastructure is not in place for him to do it yet. I'm certain this could be retrofitted to 3-D easier than any of the movies so I would not be surprised to see it released that way eventually. |

Very nice. I saw that there will be a few new characters. I need to go on the SWW Database and see if any information or biography has been posted on them yet.
You say GL is going to make a 3-D Saga?!! SWEET!!! I am going to get that without a doubt. Hopefully I can finish my Jedi action figure collection soon. Seems
to be more and more are coming out.
Thanks for the sites guys. I will check them. |

Despite my lack of enthusiasm following the Clone Wars presentation at Star Wars Weekends, this analysis has
reinvigorated my interest. The less I think about marionette heads, the happier I am about this project.

So here's my question about what we've seen in the trailers for clone wars (the second one hit Yahoo today). Why is Anakin fighting Count Dooku? I got
the impression from the dialog when Anakin, Obi-Wan, & Dooku fought in EP3 that Anakin had not faced Dooku since EP2 when he lost his arm. Maybe it was
just my interpretation of what they said. Any thoughts?

That's what we all thought, but without going back and checking the dialog, I guess there's no reason that Dooku couldn't have been referring to a
meeting from this new episode or even one down the line during the Clone Wars.
I got the soundtrack to the movie and have listened to almost all of it once. Very interesting. Far more action-packed than Shadows of the Empire a dozen years ago. The first half is like David Arnold's recent James Bond scores- lots of references to the classic music punched up with some modern beats. Further on it reminded me of Shirley Walker's work on Batman: The Animated Series. Some of the Jabba/B'omarr music mixes in Chinese instruments and there's even some bluesy saxophone in a nightclub track. As I'm about to get into the car to go see this flick for the first time, I'm going to drive to the opening titles, which sounds like a remix of the Star Wars we know and is very likely the TV series' main theme. |

Ok...so I saw the note about the mostly empty theater, and I saw Sharon's review on FB for 3/5 stars. Give me a little detail here....did the movie flat
out suck or what?
I read the reviews on Metacritic.com and they seem pretty bad....overall score of 40. I'm beginning to think that I should probably spend my movie money on Tropic Thunder this weekend instead and catch CW when it goes to the dollar theater. One reviewer said, "Basically just a 98-minute trailer for the autumn launch of a new series on the Cartoon Network." Accurate? |

I liked it quite a lot and will definitely try to see it again this weekend. I do not think it will have the broad appeal of a live action movie, but it's
tough to say how the kids will turn out. You and I often disagree about the movies so I guess I'd suggest that you wait for the TV show of the DVD of this
release, but for me, it was more fun than I expected. I'm still not convinced the "Thunderbirds" heads were a good idea, but this movie is
definitely made for fans with lots of inside references, good humor, a dynamic camera, and lots of action.
I think once people see it there will be an ongoing argument asking why this installment was better than the first two prequels. I was surprised by how much I liked Ahsoka. Her design was not appealing to me, but her chemistry with Anakin is great. Women fans have deserved this dynamic a main character since Star Wars began. Like Filoni has said in interviews, she's sort of the lens we see the Jedi through and it's interesting to get her take on the intimidating and exciting adventures. I think the Hutt's stole the show, though. This is easily Jabba's best performance since Return of the Jedi, his son Rotta is strangely cute and funny, and a new Hutt, Ziro is... well, beyond words. I'd like to save my description of him till more people have seen the movie, but he's a bit like Truman Capote playing a Tennessee Williams' character in Star Wars. |

Good to see you liked it. I hope to see it soon maybe this weekend. It's really getting killed by critics. I wonder if it could do really poorly at the
box office?

Okay here goes my strange distorted and fragmented review. First yay I finally saw a SW "film" with true SW fans, not just friends who happen to
enjoy the films. I don't believe this will have as broad appeal as the main films because as mentioned before this is really just a grand intro to the
series whose target audience are the real fans and kids ("Yeah lets make some more fans to buy all these toys and build my empire").
It was fun to me and I enjoyed it alot. There was a fair amount of humour which will appeal to adults and kids both fan wise and mainstream which will be crucial to the series success on tv. I did actually enjoy seeing the characters well developed but more development in certain characters. I think Uncle George passed it on that the story most important here. I think Campbell's description of the "Thunderbirds" look of the characters is pretty accurate and not especially appealing, particularly Obi Wan or Count Dooku. But this is very high level of stylized anime and each character seemed to have their look developed based on the qualities of that character. I can say I like this incarnation of Assaj Ventriss's look the best. And Jawa's are gonna make some new fans. The visual shots and "camera" angles especially during the action sequences was fantastic and just built on what we've previously seen on film. Some sequences I liked better that the films. (I will refer to the others as films cause I do consider this like part of the series) Though the animated Jabba looks carved from wood he's not just a big slobbering disgusting bulk. There's a real personality here that maybe we'll actually get to understand how a huge slug could come into his power and maintain it despite relying on all the ne'er do wells who could probably dispatch him quite easily. As Campbell mentioned I liked the interaction between Anakin and Ahsoka as well as he and Obi Wan. Where so many people had difficulty understanding Anakin's sudden turn to the darkside, we'll get to see the build up of events which made that turn easier. This story is always going to be about Anakin but seen through maybe more than a few different pairs this time. Ahsoka's gonna be an important in that viewing and progression. Whether we get to see anymore of Jabba's Uncle Ziro we'll just have to wait and see.......My decription actually relates to a comment Campbell made in the theatre and the one above. Imagine Philip Seymour Hoffman as Truman Capote playing the part of (played by) Kevin Spacey in "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" more to come I'm sure |

Good reviews....
Maybe I will catch the movie on Sunday after all. Instead of hitting CW tonight, I ended up going to Tropic Thunder, which was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Hopefully, it will be a win win weekend. |

I went to check out CW this afternoon. I don't think it's the worst movie I've ever seen, but as far as SW goes, it's a big disappointment.
I actually liked the style of the animation and could manage to get past the voices for the characters. The overall story idea was ok (for a kiddie type
movie), but the actual script was below what I would even consider good for a cheap Disney knockoff cartoon. The dialogue continues to get dumbed down as
movies are churned out and the details of the story seem to just be thrown together. I honestly tried to watch this in my SW fanboy viewpoint so that I would
be more biased to like it, but it wasn't working for me.

Well, I'm sorry if I built up your expectations any by my positive take. I actually bit my tongue a week or so ago- I was going to invite you to write your
negative review without seeing the movie, just to get it out of your system. However, turnabout is fair play, so you could question why I'm such a pushover
for this stuff. I'm really anxious to see it again as I watched the most recent trailer and it reminded me of things I want to see again. There was enough
adult-oriented content (war grittiness) to make me enjoy it, and overall I just found it really fun.
I was really won over by Ahsoka. Her face, and even her voice, could have made her an odious addition to the cast, but I liked her point-of-view, from brash and kooky to overwhelmed and intimidated. Ventress was more reptilian than usual, which made her a fine villain. Was the Emperor involved in her assignments before this? I seem to recall her being a sort of secret apprentice, but maybe I need to brush up on my Clone Wars history. While I laughed at the battle droids, it is an odd thing that they have taken Jar Jar's duties as comic relief. There's only so many times you can hear "Roger Roger" and have it evoke a smile. My favorite droid part of the movie was a second where a battle droid congratulates his companion spider-droid as if it were a dog. That was great! I also thought Threepio was better used here than in most of the Prequels. I think he'll be good in the TV series. His doppelganger, Jabba's interpreter droid, was interesting to watch as well. |

sabacc72 wrote:C - I think it's a little unfair to assume I would give this a negative review. I loved ROTS, loved the original cartoons and looked forward to this since it was announced. The fact is that I objectively watched this (even with my fanboy glasses on) and it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. I fairly gave it 2 1/2 stars. When you have kids and they watch this and they don't laugh or evoke any emotions, you get the feeling that your opinion is kind of on point. To each his own, but I'm not going to love this movie (or the latest Indy) just b/c Lucas decided to churn it out. If something is good, I'll be happy to say it was.

Kyle, I'm sincerely sorry that I came across that way, but I truly did suspect you wouldn't like it- I shoulda kept that to myself, though. Of course
that's your family's opinion and your preregative to have it, but I'll give my own POV- it was good, and that's why I liked it. Still, sorry I
offended.
Does anybody have any opinions on the music? I really enjoyed it. There's no mistaking it for John William's music, but darn it, it was nice to hear some new variations on the same old scores. One significant difference was that the concept of leitmotif (punctuating the music with character, place, or Force themes) was minimal compared to the traditional movies. Also, did anyone notice the "music" of the lightsaber duel? One of the major lightsaber battles had the sabers toned to play, I think it was Darth Vader's theme. Really clever! I also really liked the Jabba's Palace music that was a variation on the Cantina Band tune we all know. Lastly, I love the new beginning to the Star Wars Main Title- though it's kinf of odd that it nearly turns in a Star Trek theme within 20 seconds. I'd love to hear that military march mixed into a much longer version of the theme. It was exciting to hear and orchestra really add something new to that theme. And one more question? How did you all feel about the newsreel style voiceover in the beginning? It provides the same "in medias res" feeling, same as the crawl. I'm ALL FOR the crawls in the movies, but I thought this was perfect for a new Clone Wars outing and expect we might get the same thing in each episode. |

I've been so busy at work that I still have not had a chance to see this movie ! Now I hear the tv series will start in early October. Does anyone know if
they will play the "movie" as the first four episodes of the tv show ? or will it pick up with events after the movie.
I'm sad to see it didn't make much money. I did not expect it to be a huge hit, but it didn't seem to do very well at the box office. What does this mean for future Star Wars shows? Like that live action TV series still in development.... I hope its still on the way. |

I'm fairly certain that the Clone Wars movie will not be broken into episodes, unless it's packaged that way for syndication. The movie will be
released as a video release around the holidays.
I don't think the CW movie has much to do with production of the distant-future live-action series. That will be affected by the regular weekly CE program. Will people tune in? Tough to say. I sure wish Hyperspace would stream it in HD as of the night each episode is released. That would earn my $15 again. I won't be getting cable for this new series, so I'll be joining the masses that are missing the newest official SW offering on its initial release. |

The story was weak, but the movie fun, I liked it. I missed all the music stuff, I went to the movie for entertainment that day and didn't pay that close attention. I do remember liking the music overall, though. |

Ah, great point about the armor the characters did and did not wear. And I was a little surprised by Mace's statement about Kenobi and Skywalker being
"sparable," too, but I suppose they must have been between assignments.
It's really odd that Ahsoka and The Force Unleashed's Starkiller both use the backhanded lightsaber grip. A friend told me that that style of fighting is what made the Starkiller her favorite part of the new Soul Caliber IV videogame. I never ended up seeing it again, but I look forward to picking up a DVD the week it comes out. |

...and I did pick it up- the day it came out, today.
First think I notice is the fact that the Christophsis battle concludes at about 26 minutes and completely feels like the end of an episode. Filoni has noted that the movie was the absolute first project of Lucasfilm animation so that accounts for why the series might be better than the movie. If you want to like the new movie, I'd suggest you get the soundtrack as that is a bit less rock-like and makes the movie more fun to catch all the references to the Saga music. |
