Posts: 6068 Thu, Jul 10, 2008 1:28 PM Consul - Orlando System Baron Admin	Tags : stormtrooper, helmet, efx, prop I got good news from eFX. I ordered the Stormtrooper helmet the other day and just got an e-mail saying the shipping cost had actually gone down. They originally quoted $37.50 but lowered it to $21.32. Now if they'd only lower the cost of the helmet! Has anyone seen what's on tap for eFX? Their McQuarrie Vader helmet looks amazing but I'm sure I won't be able to afford it. They also have a nice Episode II Clone helmet and an Ahsoka lightsaber coming out.

They are going to have some that are signature editions signed by McQuarrie. That would be cool to have. Does anyone know if he signs much stuff? I know he's really old now. Anyway I bet it will cost a lot.

The signature edition would probably be another $200 or so. I know he signs very little now, and even when he does, his Parkinson's disease makes it difficult to be legible. I had an Empire Strikes Back Radio Drama poster signed by him that I bought from his booth at Celebration II. The booth was actually run by the guys of Dreams and Visions Press who made that amazing McQuarrie retrospective book last year.

That option serves me well with Sideshow, makes purchases easier to manage into the budget. And having collectibles ready to purchase before taking orders is awesome as well. This new company is really off to a good start. Campell, are you getting an acrylic case for the stormie? Or is it going in a cabinet? Or perhaps, will you be wearing it? I've got my e3 Clone Helmet uncovered. I've bought an acrylic cover from Jobe Dubbs and he's selling the helmet version for a very reasonable price, but I also went to IKEA yesterday looking for some kind of display finding no joy. It's firmly up in the air. I also like the eFX philosophy of selling these after they are made. I'm sick of pre-orders. I understand the need when you are making a limited run of an item that's unproven, but selling a small number of the most demanded helmet in Star Wars is obviously going to sell out. Why bother with the hassle of cancelled orders etc. Kudos eFX.

Posts: 6068 Mon, Jul 14, 2008 12:33 PM Consul - Orlando System Baron Admin	Yeah, I've looked at the Detolf for years and never bitten. Maybe, though I'm thinking it may not be big enough for the helmets. They have a new glass case this year that's very nice, and very large, but it's got these atrocious wire flower patterns on the bottom that I'm certain make the entire piece unsuitable for most men. It's odd, it's in a matte black metal that would fit many decors then the bottom shelf, which could be covered, is a pattern of about 16 big flowers that don't match the rest of the piece. Still thinking. What I need to do is build some shelves and open up "all" my figures to make lots of room for some furniture.

Posts: 365 Mon, Jul 14, 2008 3:10 PM *Orlando*	How big is that Ikea cabinet ? Are the flowers really bad? That's the problem with the helmets I have some now - finding a nice display case. The only problem with the Detoulf cabinets is that you can't put your helmets on a stand inside them. I don't think the shelves are adjustable. So while its a great price I've never bought one.

Posts: 6068 Tue, Jul 15, 2008 2:28 AM Consul - Orlando System Baron Admin	I'll have to check it again sometime, but I recall it being maybe 5' high, 3' wide, and about 18" deep. The shelves are made of glass and the flowers are that bad. However, it's generally a nice piece of furniture and the flowers could be covered with a different shelf, or something covering the bottom glass shelf (which is supported by the horrible flowers). I'm pretty sure you're right about the Detolf, it's not adjustable. It makes a great display for mini-busts and smaller items.

I love my Stormtrooper helmet from them but this one's even more expensive and that's prohibitive for me as well. It would create a great progression to add to my existing helmets, though... Maybe I can get Chris, who almost definitely will have one by then, to bring his to the November Meeting.

Still that's a lot of scratch. Photos look cool if you check their website. 1000 edition size. Also for you helmet fans.. (includes me). Starwarsshop is selling a Red Captain Helmet ! Its the same as the white one but.. its got red stripes and its WEATHERED. Very nice. Looks great. Like the LED light it has on the back of it. Tempting at the small fortune price of $429. Ahh to be rich and have lots of storage space... Smallish edition size of 400. If only they'd make a clone commander helmet from ROTS. I'd like to see one of those. I seem to prefer the ROTS helm over the AOTC. Still the weathered red is nice....
