Posts: 6068 Tue, May 26, 2009 2:02 AM Consul - Orlando System Baron Admin	Tags : None Help decide the fate of our July Meeting. After we've recovered from the Star Wars Weekends we're going to get back to basics with an Orlando Meeting in July. However, the exact date, time, and location have yet to be decided. Please put in your two-cents' worth so we can get the most people attending. Trivia has been the most successful part of our meetings in the last six months so I hope Chris will keep up his role as emcee. We've had a lot of fun partly because of the prizes, but also because it gets us all talking about Star Wars in general. Rich's meeting in Port Saint Lucie had a room nearly devoted to items available for sale or trade. I was going to go last week to meet Ray Park but life got in the way - I think I'm going to go this weekend and was wondering if there is a group of fans going...

A bunch of us went the first week and I know there are many going back for more weekends. Well, if you have a particular idea for a meeting, even something like a movie night, post a thread and invite people. The last meeting in Orlando was in January. The last regular Tampa gathering was in February. Everyone's invited to organize these things, in fact we'd welcome the help. It's great to have regular meetings that rotate locations, but that never precludes local groups getting together whenever they have a group that wants to hang out. The reason we've had less monthly local meetings is because people aren't showing up enough to warrant them. We're trying to make more of an event out of it and it's my hope that people will plan ahead and go out of their way to join us.

I have the same problem with the PSL club people commit and don't show up.But it's there loss , we will keep on trying and having meeting. I know I am going to work as hard as I can to make this work . So we need to come up with something each month to keep this going. I am ready for the next meeting in Port St Lucie and will try to come up with something for June in Orlando. President- Port St Lucie Star Wars Club

I look forward to heading down there again in the near future. It's just fun to talk Star Wars with a larger group of diverse Star Wars fans. Maybe you can host the First Annual SWGFA Swap Meet and Social...

Tony, we are no longer just the Tampa Star Wars Club. This is now the SWGFA which means we'll be heading off to all directions in Florida. The next meeting will be in Orlando because they are next on the list. After that, it's back to Tampa and all the guys that live elsewhere will hopefully make the trip over for our meeting here. Believe me, I wish we had 10 or 20 guys who would actually commit to attending a monthly meeting here in Tampa, but I've been doing this for four years now and never have I had more than just a handful of people willing to commit. This does not mean that the few of us here can't get together on a regular basis at all, so if you have some ideas, please let me know. In the meantime, I'm giving everyone at least two months to plan for the Orlando meeting which is more than enough time to adjust schedules. Of course, I'll be driving over again and anyone from this area is welcome to ride with me as always. I don't see why this would be a dealbreaker for you, Tony. I've really enjoyed meeting you the last couple of times in Tampa and at the FX breakfast and hope you'll stay active here on the boards. If you won't or can't come to Orlando that's perfectly understandable, but why would you not stay a part of the group because there's not a meeting in Tampa? Either plan a meeting or small gathering or just hang back a bit till the next Tampa meeting. Doesn't that work? Heck, there's nothing wrong with a short-notice meeting in Tampa in late June if people can actually get schedules straight. No matter how you slice it, I don't see how you are getting screwed. If you and Chris and Roman pick a day to meet you'd probably have a great afternoon there in Tampa. You may not get people from Orlando there, but post it in the Meetings section and you might be surprised by who shows up. On the flipside, no matter when we schedule something, there are always people that can't make it to certain meetings. Chris and I have gone out of our way (taking days off from work/foregoing family time) to be at all these meetings we've had so far, but there will be a time when one or both of us can't. It's a fact of life, but I trust the group won't fall apart and it won't make me drop out.

I worked night and never got to see my family except on weekends and I wasn't going to miss time with them to go to orlando or where ever else (no offense but I'm sure you understand). Well since my layoff it is no longer an issue. As long as we have no previous engagement it shouldn't be a problem.

That's great (and, Tony, part of me hopes you can't make it because you're happily working at a new job by that time) and I think you'll really get a kick out of Sharon's collections. My sloppy collection is formidable, but hers is especially well displayed and organized. It's equally impressive to anyone that's the least bit interested in Star Wars. I have a weird balance of expectations from our members. I want everyone that wants to come to make real efforts to attend. I want people to plan their weeks with these meetings as punctuation like a Reunion that one doesn't want to miss. On the other hand, I'm realistic and I appreciate that people have lives and family and obligations that come before their hobbies. I know that's important and it's an important part of my life as well. This group, the SWGFA, has real potential to strengthen the bonds between Florida fans as it has already started to do. I don't want people to sacrifice the vital parts of who they are to be a part of this, but I can say my life is much better for having made the friends I have through Star Wars.

We will be meeting in Orlando on Saturday, August 8th at 5:30pm at the home of Sharon Bronson. A huge thank you to Sharon for opening up her home to us! We will be doing this potluck style to alleviate the burden of one person having to provide food for everyone. As always, everyone is encouraged to bring something to show off be it your newest acquisition, your most prized possession or simply something you think others might enjoy seeing.
